Oh wow. I was considering a P2. Seen an early pre production model in Stockholm a couple of years ago and it looked great. Subsequent reviews have been good. Shame it didn’t live up to expectations

To be fair to Polestar, I believe most of the major early problems have been resolved by recalls and some software updates. I also think that some of the volvo dealers are now much more experienced with the P2. There are still many things which were promised in the early marketing/sales blurb which are well overdue, but they will get resolved. Their customer relations and communications is still non-existent though.
Anyone know if Bjorn Nyland is getting his hands on one anytime soon? Want to see a proper range test and would be a good at this time of year so we would have an idea of UK range. As he often does range tests in -30 degC! Too many of the Ioniq videos seem like adverts at present. Really disappointed that this car weighs over 2 tonnes. Weight is a given at present with EVs until we get a breakthrough in cell chemistry to enable much lighter battery weights but never wanted to drive a proverbial “tank”. Just reiterates with me that real world efficiency of this car will be quite average or even poor.

He mentioned this in one of his recent videos, I think he said usually some journalists in Germany get the cars, and then after several months he has a chance of getting one to test.
My take is as soon as he can but not any time soon.
Weather is probably not right for cold testing until next winter anyway.
I too am eager to see what he makes of it, but I didn't make a reservation, so more able to wait than many I guess.

That is a lot of weight to drag around, I agree. I suspect that has a direct impact on efficiency. The Polestar is also 2 tonnes, and the AWD P2 sticks to the road brilliantly even under heavy right foot. I am not sure that the 2WD version will behave nearly as politely, which maybe partly explains why the 5 is much slower 0-60?

Nice car and I’m not a Tesla Fan but disagree with Johnny’s statement “The only thing Tesla outdoes them at is the Charging infrastructure....”.
How about Tesla’s reasonable, non scheduled Service Policy and OTA Updates at launch!!
Ok. A bit more excited and relieved now. Definitely sounded quiet/hardly any road noise. It is a big car and would have been nice if he commented on the turning circle as he did turn the car in the road. Still no mention of efficiency, only that it is a Hyundai and their previous cars have been really efficient but none of those have weighed well over 2 tonnes!
Solar panels do look nice, and as long as it has the bright interior which this demo car had then it will not feel too dark or claustrophobic inside. Loving the ride quality and interior space. And like the Tesla Model S, looks like you will be able to sleep/camp in it, if absolutely necessary, as will have a huge load bay with the seats folded flat. And the V2L will allow you to prepare your breakfast and meals later on suitable electric appliances!

the fascination with camping in a car is still one i can't get my head around
premier inn minimum for me but If I was 40 years younger maybe .could not afforded a car like that then (only had milk floats) so it was just the tent

This demo car must be doing the rounds as Car magazine have also reviewed it and they have given it a stellar review. Ride, steering and handling. The specifically mention the turning circle and state it is impressively small. Will have to sample it in person I hope.

Not keen on the colour of the press car. They should of gone for a matt. Vehicle to load could enable off grid tent camping. Also power a trailer tent or caravan I imagine. Must be similar output to a campsite commando socket
First drive video from Korea shows a tent ("car docking system") that fits to rear of car and also a mattress that fits over folded rear seats. These appear to be approved Hyundai accessories. I hope they make it to UK.
It makes me laugh that designers of the car say it won't need a rear wiper, as aerodynamics will push the rain water off. We ran a FN2 Honda Civic Type R for a few years with the same claim.
But on an early morning with dew, the rear screen was often covered in fine droplets/dew. You want a quick wipe with a wiper but there wasn't one. Had to get out an wipe it with a cloth! Very futuristic. Same if it has rear view camera. Unless it is heated. And then if you drive around town at urban speeds there was never enough airflow to clean the rear window of rain either! Tried products like Rain-X etc but never made much difference. Will hope the Ioniq lives up to the claim that it does not need a rear wiper. Some things like this are designed by engineers in wind tunnels but not tested in the real world.

I haven't had a rear wiper on a car for decades ... it was a Rover 214i if anyone is interested
Anyway, I normally find that the demister clears the screen pretty quickly, and have never had a reversing camera that misted up. The reversing cam is more likely to get covered in muck if it is in the airsteam (like the pre-facelift Model S), so hopefully the cam on ioniq won't suffer from that.
