It will carry on until you open the car door to get out, to allow you to listen to music in the car without having to have the whole thing powered up I think after about 15 minutes it turns it off regardless, to make sure you didn't accidentally leave it on overnight somehow.

As soon as I open the door, the radio shuts off. I have the Positiv version, which has quite a different set-up to the Electron, so if you have an Electron yours may behave differently. I'd just try it and see
