Is there a way to unlock the CCS cable from the car side?

I was at an Ionity charger at the weekend, and the charger would not accept my WeCharge RFID card, saying it was unable to unauthorise it. Since I had already plugged the car in, it then would not release the cable, so I was stuck on a changer that wouldn't work. There was an attendant there to help (never seen this before, but it was very useful to have him there managing the queue and helping people), and he said I need to unlock it from inside. I couldn't - is there a way?

He phoned the customer services and they unlocked it remotely.

I moved to another charger and my RFID card worked perfecty first time. This has also happened before, in France. Anyone else experienced this?

The ID.4 does have an emergency release button to deal with that sort of thing.
Several youtube videos to choose from.

You can try locking and unlocking the car, that often sorts most unexpected things with the charge port.
Need two presses of the unlock button on the key for IDs to release cable.

That procedure actually works for most EVS if only the drivers thought to try it !

Ionity customer services wouldn’t have been able to unlock the plug from your cars socket remotely.

To unlock the socket on any ID, you can press the unlock button on the drivers internal door handle near the mirror adjustment knob.

Or the double key fob press method.

If that doesn’t work, then;

I had the same problem at an Osprey charger, and their CS released the cable from my ID3.

Ok, but how?

I can see how they’d communicate with the charger and reset that perhaps, but how would that unlock your charge port if that is what was trapping the cable the car end?

They can’t have remote access to your vehicle, or can they? 🤔

Thanks for the replies.

Well, I couldn't get the cable out, and nor could the other guy. After he phoned CS, it came out without me doing anything to the car.

The "Stop charging" method from the screen inside the car wouldn't have worked as it wasn't actually charging, so the option wasn't available.

Didn't try the double-click on the key fob, will try this next time.

I can’t answer that question. All I know is, it worked. I had a failed charge and phoned them. We went through all the known key presses, and they didn’t work, so they must have done something.

Interesting, I’d be interested to know what they did, and how the CPO can get your car to unlock its charge port remotely! 👍

As I understand it chargers (even type 2) send data signals to the car that prompt it to lock or unlock the cable as part of the normal charging process. The car is in control, but unless there is a fault it will, or at least can, respond to these signals. So yes it's possible for the charger to send a signal that prompts it to unlock. I didn't know it could be done as a specific action by customer services though, and I don't know if it would be possible if the car was set to keep the cable locked after the charge ended.
(I learnt this because of something Ohme had to change in my Home charger programming in order to make it schedule reliably with the ID.3. Before, when I plugged in it would communicate and the car locked the cable in place until the charge started. Since the change made to the Ohme for other reasons it no longer does this - when I plug in there is still some communication and the Ohme schedules the charge but the car does not react and lock the cable, at least not until the electricity actually starts flowing.
I recognise CCS signals are different and more complex, I don't know the details but I expect they have ways of achieving the same thing.)

Maybe they just reset the charger.
Remember to lock the car properly, doors closed and properly secure, then unlock, often double better and the cable should be free. Simply double unlocking with open doors may not work.
