Tesla produced under US regulations is claimed to have larger batteries which would not be allowed if it was produced in EU. The reason EU limits size is the environmental impact battery production has.
Is there any truth in this claim or is it just bogus envy?

To be more specific, would a Tesla with it's current battery capacity been possible to produce inside EU? In other words, are there any discrimination between USA and EU produced electrical cars?

The Tesla cars are 'assembled' in Tilburg to reduce import taxes and are therefore not officially made in the US. Several US Models S cars are running around Europe today and they were imported without problems.

The Optare Solo buses in use in Milton Keynes are EU built (not sure about battery sourcing though) and have a capacity of 80kWh. They are much slower than a Tesla, but can carry more people.
