On Tue I visited Skurrays in Swindon (my nearest Ampera dealer and an 80 mile round trip) to collect a replacement charger (mine was faulty) and managed to lock my keys in the Ampera :-O

Not long after delivery, I had set the car to auto (passive) locking as I thought it was a "cool" feature. Often I put my coat on the back seat with the car key in it... unfortunately this time the car decided to lock the doors. Clearly something went wrong (RF interference?) and it didn't realise the key was in the car! The Ampera specialists at the dealer where consulted and advised "no way to unlock the car except breaking in" (at that point I so wished we had OnStar!).

With the distance and looming rush hour traffic, there was no way of getting the spare key to the dealership before they closed and the security barriers would prevent collecting later! Thankfully they offered a loan car so I could get home and return the next day. Unfortunately there was stuff in the car I needed so I had to return that night to collect - but at least I could plug in and collect once fully charged the next day ;-)

After this incident I have switched off the auto locking. Being paranoid I never relied on it and always tended to check the car was locked anyway.

Incidentally, Skurrays have two external chargers - one BG and one Vauxhall. It was the first time I had seen the Vauxhall one and it looked quite good. Any opinions on it compared to others? We'll be moving soon and will get a "proper" charger at next home.

Hi - I have had the Vauxhall charger fitted for a couple of months now and no complaints. I chose this one as it has a coiled cable which certainly makes it easy to pull out and put away however I do have a concern over the weight of the cable which puts a considerable stress on the car's socket when plugged in as it is trying to retract all the time. Hopefully this was taken into consideration when they designed it. Time will tell.
