Would love to charge my Kona EV but the charging door/flap will not open. I have tried unlocking the doors multiple times, but nothing. Is there a manual release for the door/flap?

The manual makes reference to something you can push/pull to unlock the cable from the charging connector, but I'm not sure if there's anything in there about releasing the flap? I believe there's some kind of "maintenance enhancement" (i.e. fix for something they didn't design quite right) for sticking flaps... You could try disconnecting the 12V battery I suppose but that seems a bit extreme!

Try WD-40 both on the hinge and the locking pin side and gently pressing and releasing the flap whilst someone else presses the opening button

There is no opening button on the Kona, you push it in and it springs out again (in theory).

The Ioniq has its charging point near the boot but the Kona has it in its nose. I suspect there might be a release cable if you open the bonnet and look around in there...

1. Make sure you press the square on the hatch marked for opening. Initially I got it wrong and didn't know to press on the marked square.

2. Inside on the buttons below and in front of the steering wheel to the right press the button for auto-release of the hatch door. This is less secure, but use it to begin with whilst you get used to the Kona.

I've had this problem too - only started a month ago after 10-months ownership. Its in for a service next week, so in the meantime my solution is a sharp "rap" with my fist on the hinge side of the flap. It has released it every time so for.

Here is my sequence: lock car with fob; sharp rap on flap; unlock with fob. Et Voila! It opens normally.

Give it a try.

It would be nice if people read threads through to the end, yes :) Then we wouldn't have 5 answers on how to release the cable! Still, keenness to help is always appreciated (y) 😊

I really love the optimism in that TSB under "Service Procedure" :-

1. Open the charging door cover (A)

with absolutely no explanation of how you should do this if the door is stuck shut! 🤣

This worked for me thanks so much! Instead of the "rap" I just pushed on the hinge side with two thumbs. Et Voila! :)
