While driving home this afternoon in heavy rain , my wipers on auto went to full speed ,the arms crossed each other and tangled . I stopped the wipers then stopped the car to inspect. The drivers side would was now loose , I assume the splines had been stripped ,because I could move the wiper with my hand . Just got home and unbolted the arm there are no splines left in the end of the arm. I telephoned my local Hyundia dealer and the lady who I spoke too said they would phone be back.

Obviously a good design in that the easily replaceable cheap part is sacrificial.

I wonder if this is a weak point. One that I test drive had a non functioning wiper like this.
I think you are right , the end of the arm had the splines stripped out completly and even the drive shaft was stripped too . the drive shaft looks very small diameter compared to any windscreen driveshaft I have seen on any car I have ever owned.
