Knowledgable folks,

I am trying to buy a ex demo Leaf from a local dealer and they seem not to be able to answer to one question I have. On the navigation system, does it show the speed limit of the road you are driving on? As it is a useful feature on my current car, and I was hoping the Tekna has it as well.

Yes, but sadly you have to have a route enabled. I would like this feature enabled regardless. It also has speed cameras and these can be enabled without being on a route.

Yes speed limit is on all the time. Although I use waze for navigating

I have a 2015 Tekna. It sometimes shows the speed limit (not always).
But also bear in mind that it gets it from the maps which seem to be a couple of years old.

Defo this. Sometime ours show it sometimes not, it's a 63 plate acenta though. It will be based on old map data as that's all the sat nav has, and I know for sure of a few places where the sat nav has shown a speed and the road signs something else. It's nice to have, but generally it's pretty easy to know what the speed limit is at any given point. There are normally lots of clues around!

I have a late 2014 Tekna. Shows the limit when it knows it. I wouldn't rely on it though, the data is years out of date and never updated.

Mines a 16 plate Tekna, maps are badly out of date so I wouldn't rely on the speed data too much

When I discussed this feature with my advanced driving tutor she said 'if you don't know what speed limit you are in all the time, you are not paying enough attention and your observation is not good enough to pass the test'. Just saying...

Not everyone is out to pass an advanced driving test. If people never made mistakes, there would be no need for speed repeater signs.

May I make a suggestion? Apps like Here for Android show the speed limit and are regularly updated. For those occasions where you need that facility, why not use a phone holder? The map is also more likely to be up to date.

I wouldn't rely on anything other than a proper speed limit sign to be definitive, though.

Another useful feature alongside the cruise control is the speed limiter, set it to the speed that you dont want to go over and you wont unless you slam your foot down hard to avoid getting in to trouble, the speed limiter is something I dont think even teslas have along with the around view monitor which is one of the best reasons to go Tekna

Definitely - love the all-round monitor, however in this weather you do have to make sure to keep all 4 lenses clean, and it's not so great in the dark. Would love to have it on Tesla.

Speed limiter is handy too, especially in 20 or 30 zones.

True about cleaning the lenses, but I find it works really well in the dark. It has some kind of night vision, maybe just really good gain control and a bit more IR sensitivity than usual.

I use the speed limiter every day. There is a spot on my way to work where the police like to hide. Always come round that corner at 20, or at least ready to slam the brakes on, because their dodgy speed guns are only about +/-5 MPH accurate on the best of days.

We have got so used to the around view monitor in the Leaf not having it in a car would be bad, we quickly walk round the car and wipe the lenses on the cameras most days in the winter as we are loading kids in to the car on both sides most of the time its no bother between us, I am sure that in time these lenses will be fitted with mechanical eyelids that do it for you, I think new Teslas come with heated lenses.

My friend has a 2016 Range Rover Autobiography and I noticed that it has a little washer nozzle right next to the rear camera - great idea...

Yes washer nozzle is superb Idea, its amazing how dirty the lenses get in the winter time and I keep my car really clean all year around, I enjoy washing the car it gives me a little exercise, besides I dont trust anyone other than a pro car detailer to do the work properly.

The other thing I love about the Tekna is the heated steering wheel, OMG the first winter we used that was amazing, I suffer from poor circulation in my hands sometimes, its total bliss, I also rather like the heated seats too, its amazing how warm they can make you feel without having to heat the whole cabin, useful if on a long run and you need a few extra watt hours, although you cant turn off the AC for the whole time as the screen will fog.

I absolutely love the Nissan Leaf, its a brilliant car.

Presumably Nissan have some kind of camera cleaning technology for their self driving cars.
