You will never deplete the battery lower than the car will allow so do not worry about that. The car takes car of preventing damage.
Don't forget... when you are driving on petrol you are running a generator and continuously charging the battery.
The great thing about the Ampera is that you just drive... battery or petrol... and it takes care of keeping everything good
