Hi All, As a plugged in Midlands member I received this today. Thought locals may want to be aware of this..

Dear PiM member,
We have been made aware that EV drivers have been found using the Charge Point facilities at both Meynells Gorse and Enderby Park and Ride sites (LE3 3LF and LE19 2BS) on the South West outskirts of Leicester without paying to use the Park and Ride facilities.

Although we know that most (if not all) of you are responsible and use charging facilities appropriately, we would like to remind EV drivers that the facility was installed for Park and Ride users only. The www.pluggedinmidlands.co.uk map has always made this clear. Zapmap have altered their map to reflect the access situation.

As a result of the abuse of the facility, Leicester City Council has temporarily removed the charging facility until they can change the terms and conditions of using both car parks to mean that only Park and Ride users are allowed to take up parking spaces and charge up.

This means if you normally use the Park and Ride chargers, you will need to use the facilities at Leicester Forest East M1 services or in the city centre at Newarke Street (LE1 5TS) and Dover Street (LE1 6PW) car parks or your relevant EV dealership (e.g. Nissan Leaf owner >>> Leicester Nissan Abbey Lane) instead.

Leicester may reinstate the Park and Ride chargers by the end of September.

Yours sincerely

Is there a situation where park and ride users cannot access chargers because of people "hogging" the chargers who don't use the park and ride ?

Its pretty pathetic really. Council car park designed to reduce city traffic/emissions etc etc stopping EV's parking and riding their bikes/walking!

Simple solution: free P&R bus, pay to park.

Oh.. no... then car sharing would reduce income! council couldn't be seen to be doing that could they!

Cambridge added a £1 charge to park last month on top of the bus costs to cope with all those pesky park and cycle people clogging up the city with er.... Then using free cycle parking in the city car parks

Just had an email from plugged in midlands.

Apparently people have been charging their cars without paying for park and ride. As a result, the charge points at Meynells Gorse and Enderby Park and ride are being shut down.

They "might" come back up might be back up at the end of September.

Sounds a bit spiteful to me.

I wonder what they do to ICE cars that park without paying?

Do they get a ticket, the car towed away or a beating? Whatever it is, the EV drivers should suffer the same penalties.

Unless of course they can prevent ICE cars from refueling as a punishment then everything is fair.

Of course, to make it fair, they would have to prevent all ICE cars from refueling not just the person who broke the rule.

We live about 5 miles from one of these park and rides and have used it a few times, although never charged there. The times I have been there the charge points have never been in use but also not ICE'd. Surely stopping their use isn't necessary?

This is ridiculous how do they know who isn't using the park and ride? They don't so they are removing the service based on anecdotal evidence.

I seem to remember reading here or on LT about someone who lived near a park and ride who was using it on a regular basis instead of charging at home. Perhaps it was this one....

It sounds a bit odd, Canterbury decommissioned their park and ride chargers - apparently due to vandalism and lack of use (make your minds up) but I am told they are to install new ones.

Surely given that we all have RFID cards they'll know who it is?

Meanwhile in York, I cycled past the chargers in nunnery lane today (right in the middle of the city). Big sticker on the charge point said free parking for those charging up.

Spot on York!

That's probably me. I'm in Cambridge, so am now paying their £1 'fee' to park whilst it charges. It's still cheaper than the cost of the electricity, so in my mind is still good value for money.
