There are large numbers of Ioniq 38s - one and two yr old with low mileage for sale at Cargiant and Motorpoint. I am curious where all these cars are coming from? Is it one big fleet user or some other explanation.

I leased an Ioniq from early 2021 for two years. I terminated a couple of months early but it would have gone back a few weeks ago if the lease had run to full term.

The deals available on them back then were too good to walk away from. If a lot of other people took advantage of the same deals, that could explain a load of them arriving on the used market now.

Mine had just under 20k on the clock when it went back.

@Cheshirecat Yes! I paid almost £31k for a 1 year old Ioniq 38 Premium SE last summer.
Ouch. Feel sorry for you there.

I've been a keen observer of these cars on the market for the past year. To me, it seems the sweet spot is around £20k for a car with about 20k miles, SE trim, 2 years old. Premium trim maybe £2k less? Until the next wave of lease cars comes along.

@Squasher It's cool. I sold it to WBAC a month later (for £28k, making almost £3k loss in a month) as the driver's seat/seating position proved to be very painful for me, despite it seeming ok during the test drive.

Then I noticed it was up for sale at an Arnold Clark for almost £33k, which was £2k more than I paid for it a month before. The EV market really was nuts last summer. I have no qualms about losing money, as health first, but have subsequently leased an EV as I think depreciation over the next few years for EVs in general is largely unpredictable, so didn't want to take the risk of buying again.

There is a 2021 2500 mile example of a 38kwH Premium at carshop for £18250 (assuming you take their finance) at the moment.
In fact there are several others at similar price points, all with £2000 deposit contribution if the electric car is over £20K.

I'm looking at a 2020/21 model probably although there are also some 2022 models at not far off the same price point; are there any significant differences between the model years and trim levels?

If I was buying one I would run a check against it having been ex-public hire / taxi because there seems to be a lot of these hitting the used market at the moment, particularly Kona and Leaf e+ all relatively young, upto a few years old and with relatively modest mileages.

Those 2k deposit contribution ones have suspiciously low mileage, like they've been sat fully charged in a showroom.

Agree but these cars would have higher mileages on them I would have thought. Taxis will be doing 1,000 + miles per week.

I had assumed the same but apparently not, see examples below. On the same site you can find a load of ex-private hire Leaf e+ also a few years old with reasonably low mileages.

Hmmmmm, this is not a good news, all of them are almost the same mileage as many on AutoTrader from dealers....
