I need one of these fitted before BP Chargemaster will do my installation but British Gas specialised services say they are still not doing this because of Covid. This is despite numerous emails from British Gas telling me they have restarted fitting smart meters, Hive products and gas boilers in houses.

BP Chargemaster have said that other certified electricians can do this work but someone has told me that only my domestic supply company is allowed to fit a cut-out / isolator between the DNO fuse and the meter. Anybody know if this is true? I am based in Birmingham.

What I was told when mine was installed was that the incoming line & cutout are the responsibility of the DNO (Domestic Network Operator).
From the cutout (main house fuse) to the meter is the responsibility of whoever you pay for electricity right now.
To install an isolator will require the cutout disconnecting, which only the DNO & electricity supplier are licensed to do.

Pod-Point did the whole thing for me when they fitted my charger.

They fitted the safety cutout and isolator switch in my electric cupboard outside (actially where the main wire for the Pod-Point came from too).

He completed a certificate of compliance upon completion.

It usually goes after the meter.
Some electricians with some DNOs are allowed to pull the DNO fuse and then fit the switch as it can be done without disturbing the DNO and meter wiring.
Yes. Apologies. You’re correct.

BP Chargemaster won’t do it, unfortunately.

Any reason why it has to be BP Chargemaster?

Is your DNO enclosure outside or do they have to come inside to do the job?

if it’s outside tell western power and they’ll come and do it.

why are you asking British Gas?

Always gone through the dno to sort that out. Never the suppliers. Try the DNO, tell them you want the fuse upgraded as well.

Are you sure they didn’t just fit a dB with rcbo in it and split your tails with Henleys?

I was in the middle of Northern Power Grid updating my electric cutout so SMS could fit a new electric smart meter for Octopus Agile tariff. This was just at the point of Lockdown, now NPG are still only doing emergency work until further notice. It involves NPG digging up the pavement outside my house to cut the supply so the cutout can be replaced only a job the DNO can do. fortunately all my local public rapid chargers are free to vend so I've been using them instead of home charging.

In most cases, the first item inside the boundary would be the "board's fuse" and removing that makes everything else safe to work on. As mentioned, not just anyone can legally pull that fuse but it's got to be easier than digging holes.
