Bad news David, I'll have a read of that thread. I suppose it's not that unusual for new, complex cars to throw up a weak design issue like this after a couple of years on the market, all manufacturers have examples. It's really up to them and their dealers to fess up and handle it right for their customers, and yours is an unfortunately common story. Bit worrying as I'm probably going to have to deal with Bournemouth for my servicing too.. I'd hoped to hear better.

Well, I've just been out for a 20 mile drive and unfortunately the "saw" noise is back. Not just the high pitch whine like I've been hearing during the 500 or so miles since it's return last Friday, but the regen-related grinding.

The car drives ok, it's just that horrid noise which started quite enough that you needed the windows down and is now audible in the cabin.
Something is wearing down again isn't it? Smacks of not being reassembled properly....how depressing.

I've had my car back for a month and close to 2000 miles and (touch wood) this now appears to be fixed.
So what did they do to it David, to fix it? Did they compare it with another and realise it had a problem then?

Hi All,

Unfortunately it looks like i have joined the "Bearing failure group" Car went belly up yesterday with the circular saw noise on regen and in reverse. Going to be calling my local dealership to sort this out as first port of call and the My Ampera if no joy....................

wish me luck!!!!
How old is your car Damien, and mileage? Keeping my fingers crossed here.

Your dealer sounds rubbish Damien! First they won't collect - which is part of the Ampera deal - then they don't have the tools to fix it? They're supposed to be part of a specialist group of dealers trained up and tooled up to handle the car. Couldn't possibly be employing delaying tactics with this tool business could they?

I suppose I'd better get round to fixing a date for my recall DRL work! :) I can't raise a lot of enthusiasm for losing the car for a day tbh.

Do they? I hadn't heard of any.. my car is a very early version May 2012 almost certainly plastic..
I hadn't heard of the metal bearing cages failing either (though I haven't looked hard for examples)
