South Coast EV Drivers (SoCEV) Meet-Up
'Staring' the 100,000th Nissan LEAF sold globally !

Sunday 9th March, 1-3pm - WKB Nissan, 1 Electra Avenue, Hambledon, Waterlooville, Hampshire. PO7 7XW

I already have over 20 Electric Cars coming to this event due to the publicity on LeafTalk and Twitter BUT with the overflow car park now I'm happy to share on Speak EV as well...
We've not had a SoCEV meeting for quite some time so time for a catch up. First up a HUGE thank-you to Mark Peters for agreeing to this at WKB Nissan, he's allowing us to use part of the showroom and even promising nibbles! Parking at WKB Nissan is full so please park over the road at Johnson Controls (we have permission).

As such I need to co-ordinate numbers here and work out who's where. So please comment or Tweet me (@GrantAThomas). And let me know if you'll need a Rapid Charge.

The dealer maybe (TBC) arranging for interested customer to come and meet some experienced drivers and to ask some questions, which I know we would all be happy to share our experiences and EV evangelism.
LOCATION: WKB Nissan is 5 mins from the A3(M) and as you head towards it from Waterlooville make sure you take the small road BEFORE the BP Garage and directly after WKB Toyota.

THERE IS A RAPID CHARGER AT THIS LOCATION BUT WITH 8-10 PEOPLE ALREADY REQUESTING TO USE THIS I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE DO NOT RELY ON THIS FACILITY BEING AVAILABLE DURING THE MEET. That said the Rapid Charger at WKB Nissan is accessible 24 hours a day so if you want to get there early or don't mind waiting round, a charge could be available. I am not planning on arranging bookings or organising who charges when, so common sense please. If you're able to use another charger locally en route this will relieve the bottle neck.

CHARGING: 1 x DC CHAdeMO Rapid Charger, possible use of twin Polar 32A post next door at WKB Toyota.
- Nearest other Rapid Chargers:
- To the West: Rownhams Services (M27) / IKEA Southampton / West Way Nissan Southampton
- To the North: Winchester Service (M3), Fleet Services (M3)

OTHER LOCAL CHARGING
There is also charging at Gunwharf Quays (13Amps or if you are lucky Polar 32A), Whiteley Shopping (M27 J9 - pod point) if you wanted to head for some shopping or eating afterwards. To the EAST there is POLAR charging at Waitrose Chichester and PodPOint at Little Chef Fontwell

2) PARKING
WKB
Nissan has 16 parking spaces on it's forecourt. We have more than that coming; I would suggest the following;
- Ampera Drivers - please park in WKB Toyota where you can access the CHARGEMASTER (Not pod point) post. Take the turning by the BP garage then the service entrance which is first left; if you can't find it I'll be flustering the WKB Nissan Car Park.
- Overflow car park - now opposite WKB Nissan in Johnson Controls (thanks Matt Carr)

3) GREETINGS!
Previously we've met up in a pub and pushed a couple of tables together; we're looking like being much larger in numbers so let's gather in the dealership at 1:30pm nr the coffee machines and I'll try and say a few words and have a general Q&A / Natter. There is the possibility that Transport Evolved may record their show on the day but I am awaiting confirmation from Nikki / Mark. I will also liase with WKB Nissan to see if they can coordinate any offers on the day be that new LEAF or servicing deals.

4) NOOBS!
Hopefully we'll have some folks who want to buy a LEAF come along and find out about the cars. We were all in that place at one time so let's make them feel welcome and remember they may be at the start of the journey and not equipped with a wallet of charging cards and boot fully of electrical adapters.

Thanks for posting here Grant. It is great that SoCEV is becoming so successful.

It is difficult for me to get to Waterlooville without using the Nissan Dealer in Wincanton and unlike the Waterlooville charger it is not 24/7 so if I come in the Leaf I will need to stopover and return Monday. I have no problem doing this as to come in the Ampera would likely cost me nearly £50 in petrol so I would rather do it in the Leaf, not burn the petrol even if it means a stopover.

So please count me in!

I will be in the Leaf and won't need charging.

I can't wait to meet up with so many EV drivers and hopefully some thinking about getting one.

Do you know if anyone else is stopping over?

Is there anything planned for afterwards or the evening?

TUESDAY 4 MARCH UPDATE
Screen Shot 2014-03-04 at 17.08.46.png

1) RAPID CHARGING I have arranged this meeting from 1-3pm on Sunday 9th. WKB Nissan is open longer than this on a Sunday but I was keen to not swamp their Waterlooville location. However we now have in excess of 7 people requiring a rapid charge; so that's 3.4 / 4 hours of charging needed. I'm not planning on organising who can charge when but my advice would be to turn up early if you want to charge. The Rapid Charger is open and accessible 24 hours a day.

- To the North: Winchester Service (M3), Fleet Services (M3)

Grant, I won't be going. I did twitter you... perhaps you missed that.

I am not confident that the rapids will work and I don't want to go in the Ampera... it is a 300 mile round trip.

Sorry :)

Next time though if the rapids are |more reliable.

The Toyota dealership's Fast Charger was 'out' on 2 Mar. They had moved it and it needed reconnection, but hoped to have it on line for Sunday. [Its Chargemaster?]
One little 'gem' from Gunwharf Quays - they told me that if a space is blocked, then the will simply move the offending car on 'skates'! I hope someone will test this out soon and posts a photo!

The ChargeMaster post has been moved and should be online by now; I'll check in the BMW i3 tomorrow :D :D

Also WKB have charging in their workshop and will be opening this up as well. All else fails I am 5 miles away and have 32 A J1772 on front of house....

This is gearing up to be a decent event....

I know you had a bad experience and they may have dissuaded you from attending; however we you could make the trip and join the other Ampera at the event.....

Hi Brian, The charge master posts are notoriously unreliable; hence why Gunwharf have installed so many 3 pin plugs around the EV charging bays...

Right... I have been struggling to come to terms with my decision not to attend because I was really looking forward to it... so... I will come and in the Leaf... it would be whimpish of me to come in the Ampera wouldn't it when Andrew is coming down from Sunderland :)so cool:).

Will this be the biggest collection of EVs at a driver-organised event so far? I expect so :)

If I get caught by a charger going down then it will yet another adventure!!!

So Grant... I don't want to muck you about but... count me back in!

No charge needed.

Ok just done quite a few updates to the specifics : here is link to the latest who's going and logistics updates: http://goo.gl/7bW8Qm

Copy and paste of the logistics updates:

CHARGING UPDATE
There are over 10+ cars wanting to use that Rapid Charger and that is 5 hours(isn) worth of non-stop charging. I am not going to be able to police who goes in which order; but please do not all hope to charge between 1-3pm. PLEASE DO NOT CHARGE BEYOND 80% OR 30 MINS INITIALLY. If you need the full 100% charge please only do so after other folks have had their first charge or utilise a 10A / 3pin plug to finish off the charge

If you can get to WKB Nissan early then please do. Wellington Retail Park over the road with a Matalan (10am-4pm) , TK Maxx (11am-5pm), Brantano (10am-4pm), Argos, Halfords (10am-5pm), Jolleys Pet foods (10-4pm) etc with FREE PARKING. You can also access Waterlooville Town Centre via the underpass. There is also a Leisure Centre 30 seconds away if you wanted to use the pool/gym etc, no membership required and free parking. Please do not leave your car on Rapid Charge and go shopping; but if you can arrive early charge then go shop; it will prevent the issues between 1-3pm. Alternatively if you can hang around and charge after the event; the Rapid Charger is available 24 hours a day with no Smard Card or PIN required.

WKB Toyota (next door to WKB Nissan) have a ChargeMaster post with 2 x 7kw sockets; if you have a Mk2 LEAF, with the 6.6kw upgrade, and please let's get a couple of LEAFS using this as 2.5 hours of charge should give at least 60-70%% of a charge, depending on how far you need to travel to next charge or home.

WKB Nissan have also said they will open up some access to their workshops where they have some charging options.

- Nearest other Rapid Chargers:
- To the West: Rownhams Services Ecotricty (M27) / IKEA Southampton / West Way Nissan Southampton
- To the North: Winchester Service Ecotricty(M3), Fleet Services Ecotricty (M3)
OTHER LOCAL CHARGING
-

There is also charging at Gunwharf Quays (13Amps or if you are lucky Polar 32A), Whiteley Shopping (M27 J9 - 2 x PodPoint posts each with a 7kw and 3 pin plug) if you wanted to head for some shopping or eating afterwards. To the EAST there is POLAR charging at Waitrose Chichester and PodPOint at Little Chef Fontwell.

If all that fails my home is 5 miles away with 32A J1772 charger.

PARKING UPDATE

WKB Nissan has 16 parking spaces on it's forecourt. We have more than that coming;
Overflow Parking in the Childrens Nursery opposite the entrance to WKB Nissan and also in Johnson Controls.

MEET / GREET / Q&A

At 1:30pm we'll huddle inside WKB Nissan next to the Black Nissan LEAF at the end of the showroom.
-
Complimentary nibbles and refreshments are available.
- There is colouring etc for kids
- Free wi-fi available inside WKB Nissan (password on wall next to coffee area)
- Nikki from Transport Evolved will be doing some video recording on the day
- There will be some servicing and special offers from WKB Nissan on the day

WANTING TO BUY AN ELECTRIC CAR?

We will have some folks who want to buy a LEAF come along and find out about the cars. We were all in that place at one time so let's make them feel welcome and remember they may be at the start of the journey and not equipped with a wallet of charging cards and boot fully of electrical adapters. WKB Nissan will also have a number of extra staff on the day including their 3 EV trained specialists and their Sales Manager.

There will also be some special 2nd car offers for existing Nissan owners.....speak to the sales guys.

Can they not go via Wincanton?
To wrap some perspective around the above; (copy and paste from master thread)

HI folks.

Sorry to be a pain, but after sitting here all evening I've decided not to come tomorrow. It's a 210 mile round-trip for me, and the DCQCs at M4 Eastbound Leigh Delamere and Membury are both out. I would probably manage that on any other day, but with 20 of us trying to charge... :/

Also, for those who don't know, I'm an adoptive mum -- which kind of takes its toll with all the extra school meetings and therapy sessions that come with kids with 'extra' baggage. Usually, I have to juggle Mon-Friday my day job (writing at TransportEvolved.com) with being a full-time mum, and all the usual 'work from home' duties.

I part-work Saturdays and Sundays, so a sunday off is a rarity. And tomorrow is a Sunday off as Mark's away and we've pre-recorded our Sunday show.

SO, the perfect storm -- I'm exhausted, my wife has to work on code for a client (and me going would mean she'd stay up until 4am writing code tonight so she can look after the kids tomorrow) and the DCQCs are down.

Sorry folks. Maybe someone can help arrange a meet-up in the south-west? Bristol? Gloucester?

Have fun, and have a cold one for me

Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield

Great weather and the largest LEAF drivers meet since Sliverstone; set to be a good event. I think the guy from Sunderland will win the longest trip to attend!

Got quite a few non-Ev drivers coming as well looking to get their first electric car. That 'lightbulb' moment always great to see :D
