Day 3 of Leaf life. Loving the car, but I'm currently sat in the dealer's waiting for their 'Leaf Specialist' to investigate why the yellow master warning light (yellow triangle on the HUD) has appeared.

The manual tells me the other symbol to appear corresponds to intelligent emergency braking, which is now not on as a result.

I can't see any menu settings that correspond to this, and a restart didn't do the trick either, so I'm stumped.

Anyone had anything similar on the new leaf?

Here's the HUD:

The guy didn't have a clue and they'e no technicians in until after the bank hol. Until then it's no intelligent emergency braking for me.

What does the intelligent emergency braking system use for sensors? If it's parking sensors or any that can be covered up by dirt then I'd try checking for crud on them.

I'm sure another Leaf 40 owner had a similar issue with it.

Yeah most likely the radar sensor is dirty or has been hit by a stone and either misaligned or damaged.

Gosh...3 days into ownership and at the dealership already. Hope it’s sorted soon.

I've had the same issue on my 2018 SL and it's currently at the dealership. They are waiting for a part that is on backorder...

Sounds like moisture got into the forward radar and was shorting it out or something like that, but I'll hopefully have more info when I get it back :(

Hi

I've just had exactly the same issue driving to work today. Tried restarting same message as Benh8 had. I think it is something to do with pro pilot. As when I pressed it, I got warning Not Available System malfunction. Yet it seems to work ok, when I drive with e-pedal on. It was foggy here this morning so maybe it is a moisture issue, who knows. I've got to take it to Nissan on Thursday afternoon. Will update if they can fix the problem.

Quick update on this from me...

I left the car with them that day and picked it up the day after - apparently they couldn't find anything.

Drove it straight back again the following day when the system light popped up and had them plug in while I watched. Shock horror, it showed a fault. Apparently it's a front radar issue - safe to drive but needs replacing, so the part's on order and I'm waiting for the call.

Can't say I'm too chuffed with the service, customer experience and the fact that something needs replacing on a new vehicle, but thankfully the car itself is a lovely drive, so I'm keeping my chin up.

I’m glad your car is on the way to recovery. I have to admit after being with Lexus for so many years with an outstanding customer service I’m a bit worried about how Nissan customer service will treat me. I went to test drive and contacted the salesperson about my intention to buy the car but never even had a reply back despite several attempts and had to look elsewhere in the end and I’m glad I did as I got nearly a 4K discount on a brand new Tekna. I love the car but a bit cagey about any future dealings with customer services and after sales.

Same thing on my new leaf. Picked it up last Friday and tested the adaptive cruise control and after 10-20 minutes it would randomly start braking, flashing the emergency braking warning and beeping then display a System Unavailable: Front Radar Blocked message. Very disconcerting. Tried it again over a few more journeys over the weekend and same behaviour. On Sunday I got a master warning light for the front radar as well. Monday afternoon took it to the dealer who plugged it in and read off the diagnostics and found a few messages but importantly one was some sort of electrical fault with the front radar. Booked in next Monday for them to take the bumper off and check all the electrical connections and if no issues there it'll need a replacement module.

Not particularly happy that a brand new car has a faulty part and needs to have the bumper taken off and might take some time to fix. I know stuff can happen and dealership has been reasonable so far about it though.

Oddly I haven't been able to get it to repeat the fault since Sunday. But I did have photos and video evidence.

Other than this, I'm really happy with the car and keeping my chin up too.

Infant mortality is a thing with electronics, and modern cars are filled with thousands of electronic components. even with a 99.99% reliability rate it's likely something will break on a new car.

My fault hasn't repeated since I got the car back either, so I suspect they've disabled whatever caused it in both our cases. I'm sure I read somewhere else on here that they'd done that in another case.

I share your unease about having problems with something that's brand new. I'll be sending a terse email to the customer services team once it's all sorted out (including a list of other minor but still annoying blunders/grievances).

Just reporting in. Had the same error in my car. It went away though. I suspect in my case it was snow stuck on the radar.

Yeah, I know that anything stuck on the front blue panel where the radar sits behind can cause blocked radar messages. I even tried cleaning mine (even though it was clean from having just picked up the car) just in case some dust or something was interfering but made no difference. Snow seems quite likely to cause issues and think this is a known limitation.

I don't know that they disabled anything and I couldn't reproduce the fault on Monday on my way to the dealership from work before they'd even had a chance to disable it. At least something was showing in the diagnostic list though.

Quick update: When I drove the car the next day the message disappeared. I drove it with the e-pedal on and the pro pilot and it was fine. I checked with the dealer on Thursday morning before taking the car in, as wasn't sure if as the message disappeared, they would be able to diagnose what the problem was, they said that it would have been logged. I took it in they could see the message I had been getting once they plugged it in to the computer, they contacted head office for a solution, but as they didn't know straight away, it meant us taking the car home. Got a phone call within an hour or so of getting home to say that they were to try replacing the front distance sensor. One is on order, but they don't know when they are getting it in to the dealer. When they do, they will contact me. Said they may keep it overnight. But they will give us a courtesy car.

Seen the same on ours. The front radar/ sensors seem sensitive to dirt. A quick wipe every few weeks on average fixes it. Lots of road salt here recently though so I expect it will be less frequent in the warmer weather.

We joke about "LEAF Finger" for those that clean their reverse cameras with their finger. We can now add the front radar to that!

They had the car in today to look at the front radar. Checked the electrical connections which were fine and have deemed the radar module faulty and needs replacing. It's looking like the part would have to come to Japan and typical wait times are ~6 weeks.

It hadn't misbehaved at all last week making me wonder if I should really take it to the garage. However, yesterday it played up again and the system fault warning came on.
