Not the first to highlight this issue. 25 Seconds in on this video, and with a real explanation as to why the emergency release is there. It is important to know the frunk is not secure though so you don'y leave valuables in there.

Um, I knew about this before I bought my Model S - it's required to allow emergency services to kill the high voltage supply. For that reason I don't store valuables in the froot, it mostly holds my emergency gear (warning triangle, first aid kit etc) spare coats and travel pillows etc. The boot is huge and the underfloor compartment takes all my cables and tools so it's free for everything else.
