motorway service signage - new icon....

Just as I was thinking how it would be useful to have some sort of iconography to indicate the presence of a rapid charger at the next services... I spotted the sign for sedgemoor on the M5 last sunday.

A front-on symbol of a car with a plug next to it, as large as the other icons! Cool!

The next step should be an LED backlit panel for the icon indicating whether the unit is in use or not :)

I'm sure that will change shortly. I wonder if these signage symbols have to be approved by the highways agency?
South Mimms has had the icon for about 2 years now

Love the way the electric car icon features a proper Olde Worlde looking car!

Well, the symbol for 'speed camera' is an antique folding camera...

Symbols in information signs always seem to be based on obsolete technology, as it is the easiest way to be sure that people will understand them: no-one's been able to supersede steam engines for level crossings....

Good for them - not you. :)
I'm often amused at the toy telephones still on sale for toddlers with rotating dials and handsets attached by curly cords...

Ordnance Survey recently ran a competition to design new map symbols and the EV charging station symbol that won was good - simple but effective.

That charging station symbol is a little odd
- firstly it looks as if it's drooping. someone has a problem
- it looks as if it's a charging station wanting to drain my car dry!
- AC users won't be happy
- distinguishing types is tricky (and dynamic)

That's a reminder... I must check how things are progressing with openstreetmap..........

They're supposed to amuse.

Assuming you're a toddler? :p ;)
I've just made an attempt at a sign. It's on this thread:

would be interested in your comments. (on that thread please)
