Western Power Distribution have a project to bring sufficient power to MSAs for up to 40 chargers (20kva). It requires links to 33kv lines and a substation. The project is to build a solution for rapid build, off the peg, sub stations. The first trial is going ahead at Exeter where there is a 33kv line nearby. The project is due for completion late spring 2021. They are partnering with Ecotricity and Moto with the hope of rapidly moving on to other MSAs.

What we may have not have realised is that at peak times throttling may be used and might already be the reason for disappointing charging from ultra rapid chargers. The moral maybe to avoid these at peak evening time, 16:00 to 19:00.

Heres a link :-

20 months for the first one to prove the concept. It's will be rolled out for a number of MSA's and operators. Hopefully it will also be for all charger providers. 91 sites at a cost of £500k each saving about the same amount of money with the "new" design for connections to the 33 kV. I think they should be doing this in parallell with installing current technology NOW then switch to the new concept if/when it works. It will take 2 years before they assess and decide to roll it out. So we are probably talking 5 years. We could do it all now for £45 million extra. That is peanuts for getting it 5 years early.
