Hi

I've got all my albums and music on a USB stick and they play very nicely in the car.

The only issue is the music plays in alphabetical order! Is there an option to play it as it appears on an album?

Many thanks

Not sure where it picks the information from but perhaps editing the files on the USB stick so that the filenames start with numbers, use 01 02 etc, it may take the info from the Title so you would need to edit that attribute as well. I've only recently got my E Niro, like you I probably have a similar structure on my USB, Easy Listening, Classical, Pop,etc with Albums listed under that, then tracks under each album. I'm still wandering like a lost soul round the Infotainment System at the moment. I'll try to remember to check when I go out later today.

I use USB stick music all the time, for 7 months. I still can’t answer your question as I use shuffle play always. It randomly selects tracks from the entire list. This is my preferred way to play the tracks and it works very well for me. It adds variety.

Without going out to test it, I don’t know how it would operate in non shuffle mode. I probably did try it when getting the car but I literally can’t remember.
I know I’m not answering your question, but just thought I would throw this out there. Peter

I don't have specific knowledge of the e-Niro infotainment system, but quite often the playing order of MP3 tracks on USB memory sticks is determined by embedded metadata tagged onto each track.

There are various tag editors which allow inspection and change of the allocated track number/ track title etc, such as this one at Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...)

I suggest that you could use this free software to try setting your own track numbering sequence for just one album and see if the playing sequence then corresponds to what you have set. This would confirm if the track numbering sequence is the defining parameter.

You need to select file to playback in album order see photo, artist or album play in approx alphabetical order. This relies on you having your tracks numbered on the stick for it to read correctly.

I've had this problem in the past in our 2011 Volvo.

Most systems will organise the music based on the track number in the metadata tags (ID3 tags - nothing to do with VW!)

However, some systems will present the files as they are listed in the file table. Windows has a nasty habit of putting things into alphabetical order when you copy the music to your usb device (actually the problem is that the file table is written in the order that the files are written into the directory. Windows writes the files in alphabetical order). A simple way around this problem is the solution @artyman suggested - prefix the filename with the track number and that means that window's alphabetical sort sticks with the track order.

That's from a good few years back, dealing with the same problem in the volvo.

Just checked mine this afternoon and it does indeed play tracks in alphabetical order unless as I suggested you prefix with 01 02 etc. A little job I guess to reorder unnumbered tracks. What i did notice was that it show 2478 / 7596 so a count of the track against the total tracks on the stick, another bit of useless information :D

I downloaded most of my music onto a USB stick and all albums have the tracks numbered eg 01, 02, 03 etc but the unit still plays them in alphabetical order (2020 C5 Aircross)

I mean apart from the usual numbering, amend the titles so that they have an 01-02 etc prefix. Load the stick on the PC and under each file go to Properties then Detail and alter the relevant fields.
