Hi All,

I just joined the forum having owned an Ampera Electron since 1st March 2013. I previously owned a Vauxhall Insignia (Elite Diesel Automatic). I had been attracted by the technical innovation of the car as well as the potential to reduce my running costs which are essentially local with intermittent long trips. I have now completed 5171 miles and started recording petrol and battery use data after installing a 16A charger when I had reached 552 miles. Since then I have completed 4619 miles of which 1670 have been on petrol and 2949 on battery. Up to now I am averaging 3.82 miles per battery Kwh in battery use and 47.8 mpg in petrol use which, extrapolated annually will save me £1000 in fuel costs. The car is relaxing and quiet to drive, has good ride quality for its size and is attractive to the eye.
Naturally there are areas that could do with improvement, no car in my experience is perfect. I would have liked a 5th seat, more detail in remote country areas in the SatNav database and a less temperamental radio, but these are minor concerns when compared with the positives.
Altogether a great car and I am really surprised by the small sales numbers.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not really surprised by the small sales numbers: anything new needs a lot of selling especially so when it's an expensive purchase, and advertising of either Ampera or Volt has been pretty minimal. Sometimes I wonder whether GM really want to sell the car.

I heard that salesmen at the referring dealers are actively trying to discourage buyers from getting Amperas as they make no profit on them - it all goes to the Ampera specialist dealers who receive the referral.
