Breaking News: It looks like Kia will soon be releasing its software and maps updates directly from a new website it has set up. This is planned to open on Thursday May 7th, although you can familiarise yourself now with what the site will offer and how to download the maps/software
It will cater for both Kia and Hyundai cars.

If you look more carefully, it actually says April 7th :)

Gawd, you are correct. I think I must be living in the past because of this COVID-19 lockdown. My brain is slowly turning into jelly o_O

Notice was posted on April 7th and just says "coming soon."

Will be useful when it's here (bated breath)

Seems to be a work in progress at the moment. The site is currently running as HTTP and has no certificate for HTTPS so is insecure. In addition to the site above there is also a Hyundai version. :)

If you enter the same URL but explicitly put https:// in front of it, there is a valid certificate, but the plain http site doesn't automatically redirect to the https version.

Thanks @AlunS I've changed the link to the HTTPS version. (y)

I have now edited the URL of the site in the original post to send people to the secure site.

Best practice these days is for any web server to automatically redirect any plain http access requests to https. Try it ... type in
Code:
http://www.speakev.com
into your web browser's URL bar, and watch it change to
Code:
https://www.speakev.com
The main Kia website does it for example, but this one doesn't for some reason. No idea why.

Given the utter cluelessness of our dealer and their lazy "You tell us when you want us to update the software" approach, this is very good news indeed :) Thanks!

Think you may have made a big assumption here. Been told on Facebook this isn't relevant to us in the UK. Maybe we can close this before we all get too excited.

They've only removed the option for Europe in the pull-down menu at the top. All the other countries are still there, with the same content as before ...
Code:
https://update.kia.com/US/EN/Main
I have to say, having bought my first Kia after years of other makes, I'm starting to regret it. It's a great car, that's not the problem, but trying to get a straight answer out of their CS regarding technical queries is like getting blood out of a stone. For example, I have a 2020 Niro PHEV, and no sign of the much promised, "coming soon", UVO Connect yet. Any queries via their online support channels have resulted in either no reply at all, or conflicting and/or contradictory replies that were a waste of the electrons used to create them. This is just another example.

The web page has been removed... I'm afraid that was a mistake by the group...
No, not a mistake by the group, the web page still exists, Europe was an option on that page - and the British Isles are still part of Europe.
This is an unmitigated PR disaster by Kia UK and Kia Europe if they are deliberately withholding access to these upgrades to buyers of their products in Europe (one of their strongest markets) whilst simultaneously allowing other markets access to them.
So far, they have have to do very little PR in order to sell their cars as their customers have been doing this for them on social media, but if this segment is to be treated as second class citizens, then this could rapidly change.
Think again Kia!

I've been reading a lot of comments regarding this on various EV and Kia fora in other European countries. Some have gone as far as contacting Kia to ask about this, only to be told that it isn't even an official Kia website, which is clearly a blatant lie.

I have now tweeted the following to @KiaUK:-
"You had a website (https://update.kia.com/EU/EN/navigaionUpdate) which extolled the ability for users to upgrade the software and maps. When questioned on this
@KiaUK then said it was not applicable to UK markets. This has now seemingly been withdrawn from all European markets.

There are commentators on social media who were seriously considering purchasing an e-Niro now saying that they have now discounted the e-Niro because of this. After all, many cars are now doing this via over the air updates. You really are shooting yourselves in the foot by taking this action."

If you feel strongly about this - or you are now considering another car, perhaps you could tweet @KiaUK about your dissatisfaction about this. It is not too late to get them to change their minds if enough public pressure is applied.

Using my VPN to change countries if I enter the url for the updates page I get redirected to various sites which either show a message saying "coming soon" or if I VPN to a European country I get an ERROR message on the page "Sorry, the page cannot be displayed"
eg for USA I get the following page
130257

For New Zealand I get a similar page
130258

But for the UK I get
130259

or for France I get
130260
