New to the brand and new to hybrid technology.
I went for this as other hybrid cars I saw had their boot space taken up by batteries, but this saloon has mahoosive one!

Had the car for nearly 3 weeks now and very impressed so far, I can confirm I do get circa 34 miles of a full charge.
Can't comment on the MPG range yet but after 600 miles I still have 80% petrol in the tank and a average so far of 123mpg

I mainly drive in E-Mode and can confirm I can do upto 87mph on full electric.

I do have a few questions:

Wireless phone charging - I thought this model came with this feature, there is a space for a phone and under the rubber mat there is what looks like a charging module - but I fail understand how to switch this on!.
In the manual it sates this has the Discover Navigation Pro touch-screen navigation/DVD - Does this mean I should have a CD/DVD somewhere? There seems to be a space in the glove box but is blanked off?

Also the Discover Navigation Pro touch-screen navigation/DVD system keep restarting after around 8 mins- so still working on this with the manufacturer.

Other than this, please with the car - the IQ lights are amazing !

Can’t help with either of your queries, but just wanted to say what a great looking car the Passat GTE is!

What size battery do the 2019 ones come with?

What size battery do the 2019 ones come with?
13 kWh

From their website:

The battery’s energy capacity has been increased by 31 percent to a total of 13 kWh. The purely electric range of the predecessor – determined as an NEDC value (New European Driving Cycle) – was 50 km. The new Passat GTE has a range of around 70 km in this cycle. Under the WLTP cycle, which is considered particularly similar to practical use, this figure reaches up to 56 km.

For longer distances and above 140 km/h, the powerful electric motor supports the Passat GTE’s efficient petrol engine (TSI). The electric thrust acts like an additional booster, unfolding its very own dynamic, especially in sporty GTE mode.

As a result of the greater zero-emissions radius, the new plug-in hybrid drive is particularly ideal for all motorists living in or commuting to cities. That’s because the economical Passat GTE becomes a zero-emissions vehicle in an urban environment: Even in large cities like Berlin or Paris, the new battery capacity is enough to cover most everyday distances completely electrically and thus emission-free. Furthermore, when it comes to financial matters, the new Passat GTE is especially appealing for company car drivers (based on Germany as an example): instead of paying 1.0% of the gross new vehicle price in tax each month, you only have to pay 0.5%.

Using the standard solution, the Passat GTE's battery is charged externally via an interface in the front end (plug-in). However, the vehicle can also be charged while it is moving so that there is enough battery capacity for an emissions-free drive around your destination at the end of a long journey. And this process is now even easier. While the old model had five operating modes, there are now only three: “EV” mode (purely electric driving), “GTE” mode (sporty driving with full system power of 160 kW / 218 hp, 400 Nm of torque and up to 222 km/h) and “Hybrid” mode (automatic switch between the electric motor with 85 kW / 115 hp and the TSI engine with 115 kW / 156 hp). To charge the battery during the journey, the driver simply activates “Hybrid” mode in the Infotainment system. A battery divided up into ten segments then appears on the touchscreen. The driver can use this display to select how much of the battery’s capacity should be reserved for purely electric driving.

I wonder if they’ll manage to shoe horn that battery into the run out Mk 7.5 Golf GTE, a lot of people would snap those up at the right price.

As I said, lovely car, enjoy it! I’ve a soft spot for the Passat, I had a ‘new’ one on a Y plate in 2001 (1.8T) and loved the red and blue dashboard dials. Shame they lost that in the later ones.

I think you're the first person on here with the facelift version, so we probably can't answer your questions unfortunately! The pre-facelift version of the car came with the satnav data on an SD card, and a CD player in the glovebox (I don't think it reads DVDs but I could be wrong - I don't know because it has only been used twice since nobody uses CDs anymore!)

Lovely car though - nice pictures! Enjoy!

Congrats on the new car turning up! I signed up to the forum a few weeks ago as I've ordered the GTE estate as a company car. My delivery date isn't until the end of Jan though so I won't be able to help on the questions for a while!

Have you tired the new travel assist with lane keeper yet? I'm looking forward to trying the lane assist and ACC at the same time...

Hey bud - yes I often use this on the motor way, the lane assist actually keeps you in the middle of the lane smoothly, my previous car kind of zig zag'd between the lines, so its a good feature. You can totally let go of the steering wheel for around 30 secs until it warns you that hands need to be on the week. The ACC is great system and actually reads the speed limit and reduces your speed accordingly.

What color did you go for?

Awesome, congrats on the new car! My build week has just been confirmed (18th Nov) and I'm being told by the dealer that an end of year delivery is still possible - not sure how possible, but I'm hoping!
I've gone for the estate in advanced trim, pyrite silver & liverpool alloys. Test drove one for the day and was impressed with the travel assist

Curious - is the car still fitted with a standard 3.6kW charger or does it now have a beefier 7.2kW unit?

(One way to tell - if they supplied a 16A or 32A charging cable with the car)

Nice car, would love to see a GTE with a 13kWh battery, would cover essentially all of my driving with that.

Hi Tom, I just checked the brochure:

"ELECTRIC: Two charging cables – 16amp AC cable for wallbox/chargepoints (mode 3) and 10amp mains charge cable (mode 2) Socket AC type 2". So I assume it's still 3.6?

If its like the outgoing GTE, you needed to tick the box for a 'telephone prep' package to get wireless charging even with Pro Nav. Glad I didn't tick the box on my GTE as no recent wireless iPhone did or will fit the space. Wireless charging is still too slow for most big battery phones unless you sit in the car for many hours

I finally got a answer via their support - They are no longer offering wireless charging now on any Passat - they will update their brochures accordingly - apparently its the same with CD/DVD players.

That's not good that they're advertising something that the car doesn't have any more!
So the Discover Nav Pro doesn't have a CD/DVD player???

Yes confirmed - Discover Nav Pro doesn't have a CD/DVD player - The brochure is incorrect - they confirmed to me that they will change this and upload a new one.
Same with the wireless charger option - it does not exist.

I can't even find an option for SD cars - but I do have the slots in the glovebox.

Also news flash - My Discover Nav Pro keep re booting every 5 mins - so seems like the car would need to go in for an update ?

So far - not so good WV!

Bloody hell, that's not good! Have they at least enabled heated mirrors when you pre-warm the car?

Heating the mirrors when you preheat the car would be useful. The mirror heating control is one area where VW have got it completely wrong - having to turn the mirror joystick right the way round to the right is awkward and also means I forget about it and leave it on. Why can't it be a button on a timer like the heated rear window?

It seems like its the same, I leave joystick to right, surely this is timed when the car has been started? Surely it cant be on all the time?

That's a little disappointing about the wireless phone charging, my dealer made the point of selling that feature when I test drove the Passat GTE. My brochure still says standard with SE models and above.

ICE and Communications se tion, last bullet point:
– Wireless smartphone charging

It's in front of the gear stick next to cigarette lighter IIRC.
