Hi, I have never owned a EV before but am planning to purchase the e-Niro. Before we do we are moving into a new build home (next month) where our parking space is behind our garden. So we are looking to get an installer to run the cable through the garden and put it on a post rather than a wall.
My question is where do I start choosing who to install it and type/make of unit? Can I still get a smart charger? Any basic tips and advice is very welcome!!

We are just going through this now, so probably not much advice yet other than we have asked several companies for quotes. Most have just asked for photos of where it's going and given a price based on that. Only one came out to see it. We are feeling like we will use him if his quote is in an acceptable ball park as he spent ages checking out the electrics in the house, checking underfloor access for running the cable to where we want it etc. Seemed really thorough which gave us confidence he would do it well. Hopefully that will result in us making a good choice!

Thanks, do let me know how you get on and which box you choose. If you are happy to share any ballpark figures that would be great. We will get companies to quote when we move in but at the moment I have no idea how much extra it’s going to cost us to run it through the garden!

Well we are in Scotland so we have an extra grant. With that we are looking in the region of £300. It seems that each fitter has a particular brand or a few brands which they supply. The guy who came out today was talking about doing the Pod point.

I'm sure others will have much better info for you!

You may wish to consider switching your energy supplier to an EV friendly policy.
Im currently with Octopus energy on their "go" tariff. They give 4 hours off peak charging at 5p per kWh.

I currently use the cars controls to program a charge timer to charge on the off peak hours. Although there are "smart" chargers which are able to sync with your smart meter and charge off peak etc, such as the ohme.
