Have the one from my previous car lying around and thinking I should fit it in the Kia.
Haven’t looked yet to see if connection requirements differ in a BEV - anyone else tried it?

Be careful with "parking" mode or any live constant draw modes. Things like that can keep the car ON and have been blamed for 12V battery death in EVs.

Other than that it should be the same as any other installation.

Not got a nextbase but got my camera hooked up to the fuse for the 12v socket for the ignition live and the tailgate latch for the permanent live.

The hard wire kit for my camera also had a low voltage cut off. After my 12v died I set it to 12.4v so I pretty much never get parking mode anymore

I installed my Nextbase camera easily, only 2 things of note I can think of:
  • Use the rear wiper fuse for "ignition only"
  • My camera needed a 2A fuse but the type of fuse in the e-Niro (Micro 2) doesn't usually come in 2A variants. The Nextbase hardwire kit didn't come with the correct fuse tap either. I emailed Nextbase support and they posted me a correct fuse and tap for free.

I have the 622 variant and installed it myself using Nextbase hardwiring kit, if you drop them an email they’ll send you the correct fuse tap with the correct fuse rating FOC.

If you want a switched live use the 1st fuse on the left, for a permanent live use the 5th fuse down on the left. You would need to enable parking mode on the camera, otherwise it will stay on.

I’ve never had any problems with battery drain and mines connected to a permanent live.

Thanks for that - great with the pic. Just about to google ’fuse tap’!

Starting to make more sense! Thanks to all, now know what a fuse tap is - and that I’ll need a smaller one for the Kia!
I see the top left, and 1 up from bottom left are both ‘Spare’ (10A). How does one find out if they’re permanently live or Ignition on only?

By ‘switched live’ do you mean it only comes ‘on’ with the ignition?
Thinking I’d prefer that to the risk of inadvertently flattening the battery if someone had played with the camera setttings.

That’s correct 👍

I’ve been running with a permanent live for over 2 months, never had a problem. I have seen the main battery charging the 12v one as you get a flashing green light on the dash, charging lights. But that could be due to the cold weather we’ve been having.

That's interesting, my kit was supplied with two different sized fuse taps and fuses!

A later model perhaps. My 312GW a few years old now - just dug out the box and only other accessory in there is the cigar lighter socket lead.
e mailed NextBase so hopefully hear back tomorrow.

Credit to Nextbase - correct size tap and fuse delivered free of charge today!
Camera now connected to top left fuse slot - just checked and it does go off after the pre set 10sec delay when I turn off the ignition!
Still to set up Parking mode - as I understand it should enter Parking mode when power supply is cut. As a point of interest how would Parking mode be activated if the live feed was permanent and didn’t cut off when ignition switched off...?
Thanks again for the help! 😎🙂

When parking mode is enabled the camera stay on for 5 minutes then enters parking mode, that’s provided you are connected to a permanent live otherwise it will switch off as soon as you power down the car.
