Hi All,

I have imported a Nissan Leaf 80kw from Japan and it requires a IVA test as its within 10 years old.

Now the only issue I am having is that the speedo is in KPH and the requirement is that it must be Mph.

I have tried the options using the trip and understand the Japanese models never came with the option to change language or speed to Mph etc.

Does anyone know the best way to change to Mph or even an alternative route to get passed the IVA?

Apologies I have searched the forums with no lick of an answer to this query.

Please help thanks

in NZ sell a plug in to convert from KPH to MPH as there's a large number imported from Japan to NZ. I guess that a specialist like Cleevely or another HEVRA garage may already import these products.

That makes no sense. Japan and New Zealand both use KPH. ;)

The conversion done to Japanese Leafs in NZ is to convert them to an English user interface (by flashing the firmware on the head unit) not change to MPH.

By the way as far as I know they are just using the firmware/tools provided by https://xanavi.net/ to do this, and on xanavi's youtube channel you'll find videos of flashing Japanese Leafs to English. Whether that adds an option to switch to MPH on the heads up display I don't know though.

Get an aftermarket HUD and cover the speedo readout with black tape. Or use an obd2 dongle and connect to a permanently mounted pnablet just running the speed readout, multiple chooces of obd2 apps out there. The HUD is the most elegant solution some connect directly to the obd2 connector

Cheers Tony.

Doesn't HUD display information reversed on the screen so it shows the correct way when shown on the windscreen?

Ask them, VOSA have always been very helpful to me in the past, just send an email. There will be a disclaimer at the end of their reply of course.

Just curious, is importing a Japanese leaf significantly cheaper than buying a UK registered one?

Just an update guys,

I Purchased a scrap dashboard from a UK version of the same car and plugged this into mine. I know the dash is split into 2 parts top and bottom sections. I only replaced the bottom section and it seems to have converted the speedometer into miles so this has done the trick. Thought I would update the post so people have an alternative option also.

Now my only concern is the mileage reading on the bottom section is incorrect as that is from the donor car it was removed from. Is there anyway to have the mileage amended to read to the actual mileage of the car it has been placed into? (I know this sounds like tampering and is probably not recommended).

Thanks

I think I read in the ownwers manual that a reset of the speedo can be done at a dealers.
