Just got my Leaf e+ tekna today so I have lots of learning to do. Just reading the manual summary tonight and the e-pedal, which it says lowers the range and efficiency.

How about driving with the transmission set to B. Better for range?
No. Probably worse for range - slightly.

B is intended for the times when engine braking is needed, such as going down a significant hill. It's just more aggressive in its use of regeneration - taking power off the motor to charge the battery - than D. Regeneration is roughly 3/4 efficient, much better than friction braking (0% energy recovered for re-use), but not nearly as good as not needing to slow down at all (100% kinetic energy still in use).

If you are doing lots of stop-start driving in medium speed traffic, B mode might be more efficient, by providing a smooth and even slowing effect so that you use the friction brakes less than the same traffic conditions but in D. Otherwise, though, B mode wastes a bit of energy whenever it slows you down a little more than you needed.

Regenerative braking is great, but it's not a completely free lunch. Definitely more energy-efficient to brake less in the first place.
Thanks Mark, that makes sense.

I’m still at the bottom of a very steep learning curve. I can’t even use the app yet as it doesn’t recognize the VIN number. The dealer also tried multiple times himself but despite typing in the VIN taken from the car itself it doesn’t recognize it.

Charging at a public charge is the immediate challenge as we have to drive to Manchester airport on Sunday to meet and collect our daughter. We were hoping for much more time than this to get accustomed to the car but couldn’t bring ourselves to tell the dealer that we would pick it up next week. Been waiting for a full year now!
I contacted NissanConnect via live chat and quickly discovered that the dealer had got me to download the wrong app. Once I had the correct app downloaded (NissanConnect) everything else went as planned and I paired up to it easily enough. The live chat guy responded extremely quickly and was very helpful indeed. Successfully scheduled charge overnight using my Ohme EV charge point.

Next challenge is to use public charge points on a journey over the next couple of days.

Look for one that takes card payments and avoid messing with proprietary apps!
For sure, but EV charge points seem to be hard to find in these parts. The one we plan to use first on route is a Moto service station with Gridserve charge points and that is apparently a regular credit card. The next one is Genie Point or Zap-Pay. I have registered with Zap-Pay so that for many I will only have 1 app to use. Our next trip, in a couple of weeks, is to Scotland visiting relatives and that seems to be dominated by ChargePlaceScotland so I have registered with them and have that app ready.
If there is s as n option to get RFID cards it can be easier than the app, which can get in a knot and also you need Internet access for the apps.
Thanks, I have requested an rfid card and the message was a 10-14 day wait for it to be delivered so it should get here in time.

For anyone else planning a trip to Scotland be aware that it takes at least 24 hours to get set up with ChargePlaceScotland as a direct debit debit has to be set up rather than linking the account to a credit card.

I’m pleased to report that the charging went well today on our trip to visit relatives in the Stockport area. The Moto service station on route had loads of chargers although the first 2 we tried didn’t work but the 3rd one did. 100kw rapid charger so we stayed no longer than we would have done anyway, about 30 minutes to have lunch.

The Genie Point at the Morrisons close to our destination was also a great success. We were stopping there anyway to pick up some groceries so we connected up to the 50kW charger, did our shopping and by then it had charged from 64% to 86%. We won’t (shouldn’t) need to charge now until we get home tomorrow.

Hi any help please?
Sorry, only had my Leaf for a week or so, but am definitely interested in seeing any replies. The driving range shows only 1 mile so maybe that is why it is advising turning off the climate control. In normal driving turning off climate control will increase the range as it stops drawing current.
I have another question I mainly do motorway driving. To stop using the heater in the car what would be best to keep the cabin warm as possible turning the climate off or pressing the recirculating button?
as I found in the Hyundai Ioniq it was better to press the recirculating button to keep warm
The manual suggests using the heated seats rather than the cabin heater. When I tried driving without the heater on the windscreen misted up so I had to use the de-mister which turns on the heat and a/c so I don't have a good solution.

Quick update. It is now the 30th and the rfid card never did show up although the account says I have ordered one. We arrived in Jedburgh yesterday and successfully used the ChargePlaceScotland CHAdeMO charger using the app. Someone else turned up and used their rfid card which definitely looked easier to use.
