This is Nissan's take on the London Black cab!

Nissan’s product chief Andy Palmer has proposed the above NV 200 as the new 'Taxi for London'. He was following up on Mayor Boris Johnson will proposal that from 1 January 2018, all newly licensed taxis must have a zero emission function. Apparently a new low-emission taxi target could slash pollution and help the UK avoid hefty fines from the EU for failing to meet air quality standards.

There will be competition from other suppliers, but the Nissan all electric, Leaf based, version of the NV200 is definitely a clear candidate, see:

The challenge will be where will all these taxis charge?

I can't see any large city like London having EV taxis without induction charging at ranks. The logisitics of installing that many rapid chargers and the time it would take for charging would make it totally impractical IMO.

The way I read the article - the best opportunity would be for hybrid taxis. So that they could go 'electric', in pollution sensitive areas. So maybe Nissan were 'flying a kite' as the NV 200 is Diesel or Electric - but never a hybrid!
