I've been trying to get a smart meter since Sept 20 so I can move to the Go tariff. I managed to get one fitted in October but it never got a smart connection. Octopus finally arranged for it to be replaced today but the installer says there wasn't enough room and left it. I wasn't in so didn't get to speak to him.

I spoke to original installer though who had originaly said the same thing but then managed to sort it. So I'm wondering what my options are?

Is it possible to move the small consumer unit from the meter box into the garage and then run my charger (and possibly another one) from that?

This is current set up in the box

Thanks for replies.

That is a smart meter in there but despite octopus doing whatever they do, it never connected. I've checked the signal and it seems strong, so after waiting ages they said they were going to replace it.

I'm going to try and see if a spark can move the CU either into a junction box by the meter box or into the garage, which is under the house so probably 1-2m from the meter box.

Hi what did you check signal with? These meters in the region your hub is connect via radio. If you look at the two lights on right side of comms hub on top of meter, there is WAN and HAN. if the WAN flashes every 5-6 seconds it’s established a connection with the DCC. Anything less than that there’s connection issue. (I install smart meters )

I guess your stuck with what the engineer on behalf of your supplier is saying, as they have to do job at end of the day. But if it was one I had issues with I’d get our support to remove that hub from DCC and start afresh.
Thanks for reply. Both HAN and WAN flash every 5 seconds. To be fair to Octopus I think they've done everything they could from their side.

Before paying just for this to be moved I've decided to get some quotes for a new charger box fitting and see if this can be sorted at the same time. Not sure how it will work out but we'll see.

It's a bit a bit annoying that we're still, 6 months later, paying 3 times as much as we could be to charge, especially now we've two EVs. Good job W Yorkshire has free rapids.
