I will say that on two occasions now my car has failed to charge. Both days were really hot and the granny had been in the boot. I'm wondering whether there is some thermal protection in the circuitry. On cool days I have not had a problem, and yesterday it was fine also.

The granny charger will contain thermal protection... It is very possible that the temp in the boot got hot enough to trip this.. If it does it again and your at home.. Pop the whole thing in the freezer for a few minuets.. That should cool it down.. Oh and pop it into to a carrier bag first.. Make sure it is not wet when you plug it in. If it charges then over heating is the prob..
