Good info, thanks Gaz. I am an octopus customer so did wonder if getting it through that link would be the best option. I see they used to be £299 or less but £400 now.
There are various commando EVSEs on ebay for less (<£300) but I am going to take a wild guess that they are not so trustworthy, and of course don't have any smart features.
What you want to achieve will be your best guide.
If like myself, you just wanted a 32A granny charging setup and have less interest in the smart side of things then the cheapest available option would be to buy one s/h.
If you wanted all the smart stuff then the new option with a proper warranty is still cheap enough. I paid just over £300 for unused but a year old. The option of getting a 13a one and rewiring it did cross my mind.
You'd invalidate any warranty but it's only 12 months anyway. All you'd need to do is talk to Ohme and get them to increase the output from 10a to 32a but they might want to see something to prove it had actually been rewired although they didn't say anything of the sort when I spoke to them.
The cheaper non smart versions all seem to be rebadged but I've seen the prices of those increase recently with some being more than the 400 you could buy the Ohme for.
Had I been in a position to spend the 400 I'd have done so in a heartbeat as having a warranty gives a sense of calm but I took the least risky option, bought the model I needed and didnt need to fiddle with it.
Unless you can get one at a really brilliant price I'd go for new.
Recently there were a couple on eBay so that's worth a quick look.
