OLEV published a plan today showing how they will reach 500 rapids by 2015.

It's clear from this that they are waiting on TEN-T money to do the M6, M62, North Wales and East Anglia. Explains why you guys are delayed compared to the rest of the country.

DP, Thanks for that insight. Can you provide a link to the source document? It would be nice to know some details!
I have to chuckle when I see Wokingham, where I live will get 7 Rapids - despite the nearby M3 and M4 being adequately served with Rapids! Still 2EVs to 7 Rapids sounds like a good ratio!
Milton Keynes gets 50! That one on every roundabout!
Everyone should be prepared to find the Rapids turning up in unlikely (unsuitable?) places! In my view rapids need to be on A-roads and motorways. Finding them in inner city car parks and leisure centres - seems less than ideal. That how it's going to be in Wokingham!

Wokingham is next to Bracknell - the 'home' of the mega roundabout!
Unlike MK, Bracknell has no redeeming features!

Where rapids are slated for urban areas I think we will get an interesting experiment. Will people with no off-street parking use them? Taxi firms?

Probably a stupid question, but these rapid chargers are only CCS for DC charging ? They don't also have the type 2 AC plug as well do they ?

Very strange distribution again. Scotland: 25 rapids, Milton Keynes: 50 rapids!

I expect pretty much all the new ones to be triple-headed.

Funding is for triple standard 'rapid' chargers - CHAdeMO DC, CCS DC, Type 2 AC - so a bit like a petrol pump with three nozzles.

No support for plugging in your own AC cables including Type 1 charging if the 'rapid' is busy or not working. Realistically, you'll just have to leave enough battery range to get to the next charger.

I do hope they are not all PAYG? That is a bug-bear for ever doing long trips in Scotland?
My local authority say that there is a condition that their OLEV chargers must remain free for the 1st 3 years! Brilliant!

No, those 25 rapid chargers are listed as "Transport Scotland" in the full document.

CHADEMO FAST CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE CONTINUES ITS STEEP GROWTH: EUROPEAN INSTALLATION REACHES THE 1000 MARK

2013 was yet another year of steep growth for CHAdeMO-certified fast chargers in Europe. The total number of CHAdeMO fast chargers in Europe has reached the 1000 bar, demonstrating a 70% growth from the previous year.

A strong growth in the number of CHAdeMO fast chargers installed was seen in all parts of the world. In one year from January 2013 to January 2014, the number increased:

Japan: 1381 => 1967 (+42%)
Europe: 601 => 1020 (+70%)
USA: 154 => 554 (+360%)

With this, the overall CHAdeMO installation count has reached over 3500 globally, confirming CHAdeMO as the global leader and the only widely commercialised fast charging technology. These CHAdeMO fast chargers serve over 131,000 EV drivers, accounting two thirds of the passenger EV market today*.

Triple head chargers is a must! why nothing in Wales though? I wonder if the upcoming Scottish independence will affect the roll out although Scottish independence is less likely than their being a 1000 Rapid charger installed up there IMHO. Its just puzzling why Wales and Scotland seem to get left behind?

Scotland is not being left behind. At Action 25 of their strategy there is a commitment to have at least one Rapid Charger, at less than 50 miles, on every major road.
Even more strategically, they plan that, by 2040, nearly every new vehicles being sold will have zero emissions (at the tailpipe)! By 2050 all road transport will be carbonised!
What is amazing is these targets are for ALL types of vehicle!
In the country with such great potential for renewal energy - this will be great for the Scottisn Environment and the Scottish Economy - minimal importation of fossil fuels!

The really sad thing is that these are targets with very little to back them up. As an example the current "target" is for rapid chargers spaced no further apart than 35 miles on all trunk routes. However, the way they have to do this is by Transport Scotland picking a desired location, then offering a grant to the local council to install a charger at roughly that spot. As it happens, a sizeable proportion of the councils are not interested (so there are huge gaps meaning whole areas are cut off) and even those interested don't always place them where asked. Dundee were asked to put a rapid charger on the A90, but they put it in a barrier-controlled pay-to-exit car park about as far as it is possible to get from the A90 but still be in Dundee. Also, Moray were asked to put a rapid charger in Kieth; they took the money and installed it in Elgin (18 miles from the requested location)

Some big announcements are imminent in the SW and I know a race is developing to get the first CCS rapid locations live... it won't be long
