On the discussion as to the future of CHAdeMO. I've been reading that the CHAdeMO Assoc read the EU ruling as indicating that all Rapid Chargers must be CCS, from 2018. They are now interpreting this as - yes they must be CCS; however, there is no restriction on what other outlets are provided. So if there is the political and commercial will - the CHAdeMO standard will live on!

still wonder why on earth MK have 50 rapids listed there. that seems a ludicrously inefficient way of using the money. Yes, some more rapids, some more slower destination charging - but spread those rapids out on the major routes!

IMO OLEV is only interested in spending their budget... thats why they have developed schemes that give £1000 to non-EV owning people and allow councils to install 50 rapid chargers that will be ripped out once the councils can no longer afford to run them.

So far the MK ones are in regular spaces in what are typically either commuter or shopper/cinema-goer spaces.

This is nuts.

That is insanity on a 'soon to be hauled up in front of a public accounts committee' kind of level.

10k+ tied up on a peice of technology most EV owners are crying out for, in a regular spot that will almost always be ICEd.

It's almost worse than not having it at all. Imagine being desperate for a charge - and seeing several of these in a random car park, all powered up.... with no way of getting to them. Utter madness. Who signed this off?

Malcolm Tucker needs to pay them a visit.

The budget was hugely underspent I'm guessing those who bid could have what they wanted. 50 chargers for MK is quite ludicrous and just shows that on both sides (bidders and budget holders) they didn't understand the commodity! England should have followed the Scottish model and recognised the need to put a 'rapid' at every 50 miles along A-roads. Giving them to towns was just the first error - they could only ever have been offered to counties. Unfortunately Berkshire blew it and got dissolved - now we have boroughs.
The chargers should have been on the A1, A33, A38, A/M11, A27 A5 etc, etc, etc! If Ecotricity/Nissan are covering the motorway then the secondary 'arteries' should have been the next priority?
I've been shot-down before - but it really do think that we need to get political - we need an EVDA that is willing to make a stand - now and again?

Anyone know what the plans are for Wales?
Such things are devolved to the Welsh Government. A couple of years back they took a position that they were happy to stand back and let private networks develop. Don't encounter them much in the transport space. They're much more active on the domestic energy efficiency front.

Such things are devolved ...
I honestly think this is what happened in North and South Yorks!
" 'lectic cars - them's horseshit! Them poncy fellas fram down saath - they can 'ave 'em! 'arse and cart will see aaat!"
Every garage I spoke to in N.Yorks (including Nissan, BMW and Renault dealers) were adamant that Yorkshire 'folk' would not be interested in new fangled things. They certainly didn't expect tourists to arrive by EV. Mybe local government in other 'remoter' areas took the same attitude Norfolk, Lincs and Westmorland/Cumbria seem very neglected?

That might have changed now - I know there are BMW i dealers in Yorks (other EVs are available), and they should be pretty clued up given the training they've all had.

I have emailed the Welsh Assembly Goverment to find out what plans they have for a Rapid charge network or a charging infrastructure for low emission vehicles.

Let's see if they get back to me.

Of course MK may have taken the ask for 5x what you need on the basis we'll only get 20% of our allocation, expecting there to be a lot of competition for the funds..........
I like that idea, and now they've got a warehouse full of them, people looking at each other and shrugging.
