Remember this charging equipment is still made on a very small scale.
With the rise in sales of EV's over the next few years. I'm sure the cost of the components will decrease - economies of scale!
If you have a type 1 to type 2 cable, you should be able to make a charging station untethered for around the £200-250 mark now?
That's if you have the tools for the crimping of the ferrules etc.
