.. are apparently going to be run on the New Motion backend, who still have no roaming agreements with any mainstream UK operators - not for want of them trying - so if you don't already have an account / rfid with them, you'd need one.

10 public chargepoints
10 car club (co-wheels) chargepoints
10 residents only chargepoints.

County Council and City partnership begins programme to install 100 electric vehicle charging stations in residential streets
And running using Good Energy which is a very positive move!

When is someone going to produce a www.anycharge.com or www.chargemycar.com web site with an annoying singing git:confused:

Someone has got to sort this crap out, is all that is needed is a central payment site which just passes on the fee to the provider after taking their cut (admin fee), it would work as long as they stay away from apps/RFID cards and anything else that actually stops you charging.

Just registering the domains now;)

Isnt it obvious? A collaboration between Zapmap and the different charging providers?? If they provided an option they already have the technical links? Rfid Zap card and Payg smart phone app, along of phones are already fitted with NearFieldCommunication as well - so rfids in our pockets.

Lots of things are obvious to those who use the KISS methodology but it seems the people in charge are operating some other methodology which involves making it as complicated as possible, probably because they are trying to empire build.

I suspect you'll find the actual methodologies in use are:

Councils: KIFC (Keep It Fantastically Cheap)
Suppliers: KIRC (Keep It Realistically Cheap otherwise we'll have no business)

Collaborative working is unimaginably expensive to setup and run effectively

Interesting to see what happened to the (french-oriented) chargemap.com .
As soon as the French Government did their implementation of the AFID, then the inter-operator roaming GIREVE service was established.
Chargemap.com then started providing customer management and payment services and rfids that is hooked into the platform. So did Renault.

In the Netherlands, they seem to be doing OCPI for roaming. Open Charge Point Interface OCPI, Projecten - Website

GIREVE and Hubject seem to support OCPI

The OCPI is a information sharing standard which aims to enable roaming (bilaterally and otherwise) between charge point providers via a uniform method, currently mobile devices. Plus, provide real-time information about charge point locations, availability and the cost of charging.

see also, a similar, but different standard OCHP, which does much the same goal.

So, the standards to do all this are already there.

The standards are only the first hurdle. Then comes the technology integration, the commercial agreements, the endless discussions over who takes responsibility for what in which situation, who handles complaints, SLAs, KPIs, break clauses, and a whole host of other stuff. It takes absolutely ages to sort it all out, and normally a huge amount of cash.
