Are you talking about just locking the transmission (Park selector) or using the (P) Handbrake also? the transmission will have more play in it than the proper parking brake, but on a hill the suspension will roll as weight shifts from the front to the rear brake.

I agree there is no reason (that I can think of) not to automatically apply the Electric handbrake on power down.
