I've noticed a smell of hot plastic with heavy acceleration lately. I live in MN, and currently it is around 30 degrees out (just mentioning it in case it matters). Never smell it with regular use.

Anyone else noticed this ? Thoughts ?

That doesn't sound good. Sounds like some connection getting hot when a lot of current goes through it. Maybe you could simulate this just before parking somewhere safe, and have a check round under the bonnet for any hot connectors?

Oh sorry! 2015.
Well 2015 onwards i3's were more reliable so that's a good start. I know the older models suffered from worn motor mounts which lead to problems when driving.

Tandy0 has made a good suggestion and certainly where I'd start. Have a look around the bonnet for the smell and check around the rear arches where the motor sits. You can't get any closer to the motor without removing motor cover under the boot floor which is screwed in I think.

Given it's only when driven enthusiastically I'd imagine it's a drivetrain based issue.
