Pod point 43kW charge point charging at 5 kW??

I'm new to charge points. Can anyone tell me why on charging my e2008 today at a type 2 43 kwh Pod point station it displayed only 5.9 kwh transfer rate? Not what I expected.

Looks like you're truing to charge on AC? You need to use the CCS plug, and select CCS.

Actually, looking again, you've got ~6kWh in 36 min, so a rate of 10.2kW. You must have the 11kW on-board charger option on your 2008. But still, you'll be limited to 11kW on AC no matter what you plug it into.

Yeah. As above you need to use CCS to get speeds faster than your car's onboard charger can handle.
I can see on that charger that there is an error on the DC outputs for one reason or another so that charger wouldn't be useful for your car for now. You'd have to go elsewhere to rapid charge.

kW is speed, kWh is total energy. kW is like saying “I have a 150 horsepower engine” and kWh is like saying “I pumped in 10 litres of petrol”.

you pumped in 5.9kWh of energy in 35 minutes. This is at a speed of 11kW (meaning if you were plugged in for an hour you’d get 11kWh of energy.)

you used the wrong plug.

Thanks guys. Good the know it's broken anyway.
Yes I do have 11 kwh onboard charger.
Thanks for the guidance.

The plug that will rapid charge your car will be attached to the station, and be big and heavy with 5 pins.

The plug that will slow charge your car is the one in the boot.

Look under “Europe”. DC fast. AC slow.
I used the cable off the charge station. Not my own!
It just said type 2 43 kwh on the charge station. I can't help thinking once EVs are forced onto people in the future there is going to be mass confusion.

Not always as some chargers like the Tesla ones in Europe for example have both a tethered CCS lead and a tethered 3 phase Type 2 lead so for anyone that is unfamiliar with the way things work it is a very easy mistake to made.
mass confusion
Nah, people tend to only do it once, and even then just the ones who didn’t get a proper handover or read the manual. But then something like 150,000 people a year put petrol in a diesel car or vice versa.

43kw AC will die out soon enough, more and more DC only rapid charge points going in or where they do AC it’s 22kW and just a socket.

I mean we were able to fill petrol cars with Diesel and vice versa for several decades. People made mistakes but it wasn't mass confusion...

43kW
The station had three wires.

Some are not just a 22kw socket.
The one pictured below is 22 kw and you notice the cable is not as thick as the other DC connecters.

It is terrible that people are sold EVs without even some basic instructions on how to charge the damn things. Is that so they take them back saying how useless they are and buy a diesel? #dealerconspiracytheory

Incidentally, there is a plan in USA to color code EV plugs and sockets which isn't a bad idea. The car socket is black (obviously) but a big sticker matches the color of the sticker on the plug...

I am surprised how often this happens - I suppose the phasing out of tethered AC will bring it to a natural conclusion.

I made this video which explains this issue - dealers should start showing it to people as part of the handover :D

I think people are expecting this to happen much sooner than it really will. There are still lots of Zoes out there which rely on it, and aside from Instavolt and Ionity, all the UK Charging networks are still installing chargers that are equipped with tethered AC on (most of) their units to this day. Pair that with the fact that some rapid chargers in my area are now 8 and 9 years old to get an idea of how long today's installs may be around for, and I can say with a fair amount of confidence that it's here to stay for a while yet.

I meant more in favour of 22kW untethered - like Osprey and others that use the same Swarco units.
I really like the idea of 3 phase charging, although with a leaf, I can't. A 3 phase charging post that can do 22kW would be as cheap as chips, and the charger technology in the car will just get cheaper and cheaper as the volume increases. There should be minimal compatibility issues with different cars, and the reliability should be high. Almost all premises have 3 phase (except residential, but that could be mandated on new build.

Completely agree about the handover, luckily many did research before purchasing an EV so can offer this advice.

PS. Diesel over petrol for me though!
Same here in that the handover was non existent when it came to anything like charging but luckily I had been used to driving other electric cars with work so had picked up the basics. May be a part of that for anyone that has bought a car in the past year is because of the restrictions as when I picked my car up it was all done hands free in a car park with no real demonstration of anything as the car had been disinfected so the dealer could not get back in it to show me anything just stand outside and try to describe things to me.
