You might think that, however, we are hosting 15 major events during the trip which will prolong the length of time we are away. It's an exciting campaign aiming to celebrate the EV industry!
Sorry but ~111 miles a day just reinforces the EV stereotypes and you really should be thinking hard about your messaging to the wider public IMO.

What message exactly? You could travel 120 miles a day by stagecoach in the 1780's  If we start treating prospective owners as 21st century drivers then we will make some progress.

Its not a "oo-look-how-fast-we-can-travel-around-the-UK" event - thats more Blue Peter. Its not about the speed its general EV awareness.

I think the difference here (I believe the difference here) is this is more of a roadshow than a proof of how far/fast/long a car can drive. People might read into it their own way, but I don't think this is intended as a demonstration of EV capability, more just a show and tell tour.

Yes that's my take on it which seems fair enough to me

Yes but, you're being too impatient. The 200+ mile range you can enjoy on a Tesla today isn't mainstream. Unfortunately it's still niche, and for the near term will remain a growing niche for those who can afford a luxury car.

Todays reality is if you want to buy an pure-EV car for less than £50k don't plan on doing more than 60 or so miles without charging (or worrying about it, having to drive defensively etc.). Of course much longer journeys can be done by average cars - London to Edinburgh in the Leaf of course, but it takes planning, guts, and the commitment of an enthusiast to pull it off. Sadly that's not mainstream.

Don't get me wrong, I want the same future and companies like Tesla will no doubt get there and pull the mainstream manufactures with them kicking & screaming. I still think we're maybe 2-3 years away from that place.

Pod-point should be commended for taking this on as the publicity it generates will benefit the whole EV industry by raising public awareness so there are many more voices demanding the future Kevin talks about.

Have they released info on where the events are going to be held?

Edit: never mind I can see Cardiff has an event. Any further info?

Very into this idea, nice one! I think the idea of having several events for the public is just as beneficial as proving the cars work on one long distance trip.

I went to a BMWi3 event in Brighton a month or so ago and it was a brilliant way of talking to members of the public and selling them the benefits of EVs on a personable basis. I was really shocked how little a lot of people knew about EVs and you could actually see them being won over and book a test drive. Really valuable work in my opinion.

Hi all,

I thought I would update you all on what our CATUK campaign is about and what we are hoping to achieve.

‘Charging around the UK’ campaign

On the 12th June Pod Point will start a 2,000 mile charge around the UK in an electric Renault ZOE. The campaign will stretch the entirety of the UK, covering London, John O’Groats, Lands End and culminating in Brighton. Spread out over 17 days, the Pod Point team will stop at 15 cities to host major events along the way.

This is not just another race from one end of the country to the other, this is a campaign with a purpose.

Charging Electric Vehicles is not the same as refuelling, and is more akin to charging your mobile phone – with continuous top-ups. Pod Point will show consumers that top-up charging is soon to become a part of everyday life, and won’t interrupt your daily routine. Pod Point will be breaking world records, cooking with a Michelin starred chef, and racing down mountains while they charge.

Pod Point will help create customised Pod Chains for EV drivers, in order to make charging a part of their everyday routine. This way you can top up your charge while at the gym, in the local supermarket or at a friends house. This campaign will create a CATUK Pod Chain for the journey, by using current charge points from all manufacturers and installing new Pod Point ones where needed.

The support surrounding the growth of the EV industry is remarkable, and it is thanks to Pod Point’s main sponsor Renault, and partners such as Sainsbury’s and Domino’s that there is a notable shift in the attitude towards electric vehicles. These brands are integral to a family’s daily life, and they are leading the way for change. Not only are major players in the consumer industry supporting the EV movement, but it’s receiving continuous support from governing bodies and Pod Point continues to support local council charge point installations.

This campaign is a celebration of the EV industry as a whole, and will highlight the changing attitude towards electric vehicles.

Thank you!

POD Point are extremely excited to announce that our 'Charging around the UK' campaign has gained the support of Boris Johnson. This is a brilliant endorsement for our nationwide campaign, which launched this morning from Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London: “My team are working flat out to make London the electric vehicle capital of Europe and so it’s a great honour for our city to host the start of Pod Point’s Charging Around the UK campaign. Through Source London and our commitment to deliver the world’s first ultra-low emission zone, we’re seeing more people getting involved with an electrical revolution that has huge potential to drive jobs and growth, as well as reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality. By travelling the length and breadth of the country and showing what electric cars can really do, I’m sure the campaign will go a long way towards raising the profile of these zero-emission green machines.”

Our Pod Point team are heading to Red Bull F1 HQ for a conference with Red Bull's F1 head engineer this afternoon who will be discussing how electricity is more prominent in F1 now than ever before. We have many more exciting events along the way and to keep updated on where we are on our tour you can go to our Zap Map page to find out more!

So not far from Speak EV HQ then. :)

Shame Pod Point apparently got kicked out of MK by the Chargemaster/Polar - MK Council tie-in. :(
