Hello I am looking for some advise. Corrosion and peeling on my rims is pretty bad, so thinking of getting them refurbished.

Anyone refurbished their Tekna wheels? If so, how did it go? Did you go for a single colour or picked a diamond cut finish? If you picked a single colour what did you pick and do you regret it now? :)

Prices I have been quoted is £70 per alloy for a single colour and £120 for diamond cut for each rim.

Thanks

Personally I'd paint them a solid colour, the "whiteworm" always comes back on diamond cut alloys sooner or later. I'd personally go with bright metallic silver, The style does look quite different in silver. I've also seen these done to match the darker metallic grey Leafs, which looked nice.

As your car appears to be white, you could be bold and colour match it with white! That may, or may not work, depending on taste!

Due to some minor accident damage I had to have a rear wheel refurbed, so I got the front one done at the same time (at my cost rather then the insurance of the van that clipped me!) as it had got some minor corrosion. ISTR it was about £120 from Platinum Alloys in Swindon (who all the bodyshops for miles around seem to use and the results look fine. The two on the other side are showing no issues so have left them alone.

So that's what I've been seeing on certain Tekna wheels. I've seen some which looked very similar to a regular alloy but all silver, and they were all from a particular retailer. Never occurred to me it was just the original alloy but painted over.

you can do better than £70 an alloy if your doing a full set... I had the set of winter wheels for my A4 done in November for £170 all in. I went with a sort of anthracite/gunmetal grey color. Fully stripped and blasted then powder coated too, not one of those quick tart-up jobs.

Diamond cutting is IMO a waste of money and best avoided. The corrosion will return, and every refurb requires machining material off the wheel.

Pick a nice solid color and get them done that way. Dont do solid black though!

That will be it, they do look totally different when all one colour, I like them better like that.

Got any photos or link to the dealer to get some idea what I'll look like?
This isn't actually the retailer I was referring to (I can't recall what their name was), nor are they same shade, but I think this demonstrates the look:

Edit: I think that might indeed be the retailer I mentioned, they've had a bunch of Teknas with the alloys painted in the past.

That works really well, colour matched on a silver car.

That looks quite nice for silver covered car.

What colour would work with Nissan's no-cost "flaming" red? My wife likes this cover but the kerbside alloys are worse than OP's photos 😭 I'm think a bright colour like light coloured silver.

@Bootspace Rather than refurbing them, how feasible is it to get a lighter set of used alloys (that fit) that might improve efficiency and give some extra range? (if that's of interest to you and it's similar price to doing 4 x diamond cut)

Hello thanks for everyone comments.

Looks like the best way ahead for refurbishing my rims is a solid colour. To workout which colour to pick, over to our AI overlord ChatGPT:

  1. The best rim color for a white Nissan Leaf will depend on personal preference and the overall look you are going for. However, here are some popular options that can complement a white Nissan Leaf:
    1. Silver: Silver rims are a classic choice that can give your car a sleek and sophisticated look. They also blend well with the white color of your car and give it a subtle yet attractive contrast.
    2. Black: Black rims are a bold and modern choice that can give your car a sporty and aggressive look. They can also provide a striking contrast to the white color of your car, making it stand out even more.
    3. Gunmetal: Gunmetal rims are a dark gray color that can give your car a more subtle and sophisticated look than black rims. They can provide a nice contrast to the white color of your car without being too bold.
  2. Ultimately, the best rim color for your white Nissan Leaf will depend on your personal style and preferences. Consider your overall desired look and the type of driving you will be doing before making a decision.
Honestly these are the colours I was looking at. I like the AI's description of option 3. Time to see if I can get a better quote for gunmetal rims :)
