Hi,
I have a 2016 Peugeot iOn, and would like to change the radio so I can listened to Talk Sport/Radio 5 live. I'm not bothered about perfect acoustics, but am hoping sonmeone can recommend a reasonably priced replacement. Does this need to be fitted by a specialist?

Yes I have. Ì Had a pure highway 260dbi -which ticks all the boxes mentioned- in our fiat panda. That got written off in a crash and i salvaged it out of that car for reuse. It's an excellent radio available through halfords and is often discounted.

The czero replaced the panda, and a local in car audio firm reinstalled the radio in the czero without fuss. Btw halfords refused to touch the job as it was an 'electric car', despite assurances it had normal 12v electrics for accessories.....

As well as the radio ypu need a dab aerial. Mine is a self adhesive thing unobtrusively placed on the lh side of the windscreen, with wires tucked down the a pillar.

Its a great unit amd has four speaker outputs. I've not yet installed them, but have got two extra speakers for the rear doors and a temp lash up established that theyre getting a feed through the factory installed wires.

Do it !!

Oh...and talk sport is on dab. Here in rochdale the bbc national dab signal is strong but talksport is on a different carrier amd has two small blackspots of coverage. Nothing to worry about though.

Thank u, that's very helpful, I went to Halfords and I must have walked in on new trainee day! Thank goodness for the deputy manager, who at least admitted they sold this radio! However I've found it on Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PDCNR6Y for nearly £30 less, and as I wasn't at all inspired by their ability to sell it, let alone fit it I think I'll go to a local place, and give them the £30 fitting charge. Halfords mentioned I also needed a DAB ariel as you've mentioned and also something about a wire rack that cost about £10 does that ring any bells? Thank u again for your help.

That sounds about right. On your amazon link you'll see the dab film aerial the I've got (they're really unobtrusive and work well) and all the different radio brands have different sockets on the back. I had to pay for a cable to convert the pure's output socket into what the car has (iirc the installers found that a pioneer cable was needed) but you'll find that's common for any replacement audio.

I think I paid about 80 quid for the install which included a new dab aerial (couldn't remove and reuse the one in the panda), new cable and the acrual installation - about an hour iirc.

I'm a radio addict and work shifts, so whilst Ill have radio 2 on when ken bruce is on air, I need dab for radio 5 and talksport and for the comedy on digital-only radio 4 extra when Vine starts ranting.

The pure 260 gets well deserved excellent reviews. I initially had a Sony dab unit put in the panda which was an ergonomic nightmare to operate. Thankfully it went pop and halfords agreed to swap it for the much better pure unit.

Any decent in car entertainment outfit should be able to help - more so if they can sell you the aerial and the cable. My initial panda install made a mistake though....they gave the aerial a permanent live feed. This slowly flattened the big battery that the diesel panda had and I thought the battery was at fault - until on a frosty morning I noticed the heat from the aerial had melted the patch of ice around it !!!

One other thing......its mentioned in the 'clock' thread......but the pure 260 can also serve as a much missed clock. The brilliant two line display shows the station name on top, but the bottom line can show various bits of info like the track playing or programme name - or a clock display. This setting is remembered too so you don't have to keep choosing it every time the radii is turned on.

No problem at all. No....I've got the other type which is stuck on the inside of the windscreen. It has a small black box (about an inch by and in and a half) that goes at the side of the windscreen, and an L shaped small aerial (about 5 inch by three inch) that's rather like the heating elements of a heated rear screen.

It's very unobtrusive and looks miles better when installed than in the adverts and works very well.
