Hi All

It says on the Tesla site the Model 3 AWD is free road tax BUT I know someone who purchased an Audi Etron and had to pay a 1 off fee of over £1000 at first registration.

Does the Model 3 have any tax to pay as it is best part of 48k new is there a 1 off payment when new

Thanks

Just found out it was scrapped in the 2020 budget and as off April this year it is zero but my nate who bought the Etron had to pay about £1500 in March LOL

That £1500 that your mate paid is definitely not road tax. Even if he bought the car before the budget announcement, it still qualifies for zero road tax as the budget is backdated by a few years. That £1500 is a registration fee as you mentioned in your first post.

It's the same with Tesla, you have to pay a £990 documentation fee when you buy your car. The only difference is that Tesla includes this cost in the advertised price of the car.

For clarity, here are RFL first year rates. The objective is to discourage buyers from high emission cars, but it doesn't really work as hidden in their PCP/PCH payments.

It was the ved surcharge which was dropped in the budget. About £330 /year saved.
Yes we were happy about that for our Model 3!
