Hi folks,

recently the satnav screen has a mind of its own, when car is turned on it's fine, as soon as its turned off, the screen keeps flipping, opening and closing, rang the dealer who said there will be a charge to check it, and if the warranty covers the fault it will be done foc, has anyone came across this or knows if the warranty will cover it. A quick search on google showed me one result of a similar fault and dealer wanted £1000 ! Surely this should be covered as its seems to be a glitch of some sort in the software, all started happening a few days after the car was serviced not sure what to make of it all

the car is a 24 kw leaf 2014 gen 2
thanks

The screen has a 3 stage angle feature, maybe it has got itself in a loop of some kind while it's trying to close flat?
The use this function you keep the Open button pressed in for ~2 seconds until the screen flips out to position 1, press again for 2 seconds for stage 2 and again for 2 seconds for stage 3, pressing again for 2 seconds returns to the flat\flush position.
This may help, give it a try.

If it's not that then I would say take it to the dealer for a warranty claim as what you have explained is not normal, they may need to flash the car with the latest firmware to possibly cure it or it could be a faulty head unit?

Thanks mate, it's booked in for next week, warranty should cover it, but been told I will have to pay to get it checked ! they couldn't even tell me on the phone if the fault was covered by the warranty or not and that they need to check it first

@username Hopefully the car is still within it's 3 year manufacturer mechanical and electrical 'normal' warranty? When was it first registered?

31st July, still have the remainder of warranty just made it, plus there is an extra years cover,

Tried all of the above to no avail, the dealer suggested removing the 20 amp fuse for the sat-nav that obviously sorted the issue but no radio or sat-nav, later on today i put the fuse back and touch wood it seems to be back to normal, will give a few days and see the fault re occurs

thanks for everyone's input its appreciated

Was it solved? I have same issue with my 2011 leaf. Removed all the fuses and put them back in with no luck.

If anyone has this issue in future, this is how I fixed it.

Sprayed aerosol based contact cleaner all around the tilt button and blew air into the groove around the tilt button using my bike pump with ball inflating pin.
That did not solve the issue straight away.
continuous open and close of the screen drained out my 12v battery in 1-2 days. I have let the car sit in sunlight for 3 days.

When I charged 12v battery back again in a couple of days, I noticed the screen stopped to open and close continuously. Tilt screen button is still working if I need it.

Lesson learnt... never spray cleaning liquid directly on anywhere near the buttons, use wet wipe or spray on a cloth.

The screen on my 2011 Leaf also opens and closes randomly while I am driving and parked etc. I tried the compressed-air and sun method above. No luck. I disassembled the screen. Pull the 20A radio fuse in the box next to the battery to cut power to the Nav while you work. There are 13 Phillips screws (some very small) to make the screen come out. There are also 2 ribbon cables you need to pop. Super easy. A long thin PCB sits behind the plastic brightness and tilt/open buttons. That PCB hosts 2 contact switches (one for tilt and one for brightness) 4 LEDs to illuminate those same buttons and a few lumped components. I cleaned the mechanicals (buttons) with contact cleaner and reassembled. No luck. I disassembled again and ripped the tilt button off with a pair of pliers. I then cleaned the pads on the PCB where the dismembered button sat, so the button would no longer function AT ALL. I put the thing back together and it seems to be good to go. Of course if you want the screen to tilt/open you need to coax the screen into position with a flathead. I have never opened this thing intentionally and I don't have plans to in the future. But its pretty simple to open with a flathead if needed (it won't be). For me this stupid thing is a lot like a motor on the lid to your just box. Who uses this liability? How stupid!
