Hi all

Does anyone know if the MG 5 comes with a built-in charge timer, or supports a chargepoint that can schedule charging e.g. Zappi?

I know the ZS doesn't have a built-in timer, and that some other EV's go to sleep and can't be woken by a chargepoint timer.

Can anyone confirm? I'm on the Octopus 'GO' tariff, so some way of scheduling charging is essential.

Thanks

Maybe somebody who has a Rolec Smart Charger installed ( One of the recommended units by MG ) can comment on if delayed charging facility can be achieved via an "App" etc ?.
I know this was a problem and am unsure if this has been resolved on the Rolec units.
I believe the OHME unit has the ability to delay charge on the ZS EV so the MG5 SHOULD not be a problem.
The Anderson is a nice looking unit to be fair, but it's price reflects this !.
Zappi is good quality unit but again is not the cheapest.
I already have the older type dumb Rolec unit that has encountered the usual problems regarding the poor quality RCBO breakers failing.
But at least I was able to achieve delayed charging by installing a Wi-Fi switch inside the wall box, which can be controlled from an "App" on my phone.
Buy cheap, but twice I guess when it comes to wall box units.

The latest software on the ZS EV supports being woken to charge by a smart charger just fine (I use Ohme) - I assume the MG5 will be the same
Has there been any update on this? I'm a new member and just picked up my MG5 - very please with it!. I was told by the dealer it had the scheduled charger capability s/w upgrade, but that does not appear to be the case. I have a Rolec smart home charger being installed and really want to be able to use the reduced Tariff electricity (00:30 - 04:00 - Octopus Go).
Anyone knows when the scheduled charging and charging when unlocked functionality will be available?
Thank you.

My scheduled charge on my zappi wakes and charges the MG5 fine. When you open the door the car stops charging for 1 min so an adjustment to have the zappi wait longer before deciding the charge was completed was needed. Found on this forum. The car itself does not have a charge schedule you car adjust. You must use your evse to do this.

Br_Ranger... thanks for this. I'm told the MG5 will only charge when locked which I have proven on Pod Point. Does your MG wake up when the Zappi tries to charge it after it has gone into sleep mode... MG have stated this will not happen but it would be great if it did. I took the car to try a Pod Port charger at the weekend and could not charge with the wife inside with the heater on which did not go down well:(
Tks

Pod Point have now enabled charge scheduling through their app for the Solo home chargers. Could be really handy for some MG owners and for me considering an MG5 in future and having a Podpoint, it is one less negative about the car...

Tks Will_12. I can confirm that after 3,000 miles with my MG5 it will not charge unless locked. It would seem that other MG5 owners get different results giving the only conclusion that there are multiple software versions installed. MG Support were useless and kept referring to the manaual. I installed a Rolec charger which works well. It trickle charges until the off peek tarrif and then charges at the 7KW.

Hi Sabin - I am using the “Sonoff basic” Wi-Fi relay inside my dumb Rolec.
I have been using to control my delayed charging requirements for almost two years now.
The App that works in conjunction with the relay is a free down load from the usual places.
The “Shelly 1” device works in a very similar way and is also a brilliant alternative.
A quick search on YouTube will provide the info you require.
Both are fairly inexpensive and offer so much more flexibility to control delayed charging.

Is there a danger the car can be driven off while still connected to the charger?

Not in a LEAF or any other car that correctly meets the standard IEC 62196. The charge is only suspended, not ended.
