Am I missing something or is it really the case that I have to set a departure time in order to set and off-peak charging time? Would that my life was as organised as that!

I think getting up at 0030 every day to start charging is not really a great idea. Especially as I'd have to get up at 0430 to stop it again!

It doesn't have to be your actual departure time, a nominal one will do, say 09:00, unless you want the air conditioning to run before you leave, in which case it does.

The car certainly does have the ability to set charging only when you have the cheap electricity - it sounds like you use Octopus go like me. However I did have an occasion when for some reason the car failed to charge as expected. Currently I find it works better using the scheduled charging feature in my Podpoint home charging point. That has only failed to charge on one occasion and worked successfully every other time.
