I can select the charge level for use with the 13A cable within the Energy Consumption menus, 6A is the default but can be changed to 10A. My charging cable does not have the switch of the earlier ones, just two lights, one for power and the other when there is a problem with the earth connection which stops any attempt at charging.

h8ten... don't you have a Volt? I don't think that the Leaf or Ampera has that option do they?

I have the Ampera, It is within the Power Usage menus but will check today exactly what menu options I need to go through to access it.
I have had Vauxhalls since my first Chevette way back in 1979, good cars only let down by poor experiences at some dealerships.

Oh right! I must have missed that one then. I'll have to check because when charging at the caravan I would like to make sure it is only on 6A as sometimes I use the Nissan Leaf EVSE which is not selectable.

Thanks for that :)

Re: Potential Issue with the 6.6kw charger for Nissan Leaf

It appears that it is not in the handbook, well the PDF I found on the net.
Press the Leaf button until the charging screen is displayed and at the bottom centre of the screen I have a button to access another menu 'Change Charge Level'. In here you can select 6A or 10A, it does tell you that this only affects using the portable cable and I think it may reset and default to 6A after each charge.

I can not see this option on my Ampera, I wonder if there is a software upgrade that gives this option and updates the sat nav etc? I am not sure if this should have been a new thread as we are diversifying from Nissan.

I am curious why the 2012 cars have not had a software update yet then?
Considering the whole car is a mass of computers I'm very surprised there aren't many updates available for different problems and features, with information available on what they are, etc. It feels like GM just 'dont want you to know'.

My car was less than three weeks old when it was in the garage and while I was booking it in I was told there were three rework items, 1 - to do with the charging flap/lock/sensor or whatever, 2 - to do with software for the handbrake (at least that is what it sounded like) and 3 - another software item which did not mean anything to me. I was told when I collected the car I would receive a report about it but I think that is more to do with the paintwork defect.

My Opinion.

2012-- is better because you can select the amp rate on the button on the cable when you are out of the car and about to plug in charger.

2013-- not as good because you have to remember to pre-select 10 amps on the touch screen before you get out of the car. I have forgot to do this many times and its a real pain to get back in the car start up again and go through the the menus to select 10amps. I usually dont bother if I forget and just leave it a 6 amps.

I think they wanted to reduce the use of 10A generally as so many charge cord units have had melted plugs. Mine has been replaced twice and I use wall mounted EvSE most of the time.

You don't have to remember every time - the car sticks with your previous selection until you change it.
