Noticed that Shell have installed 4x 150kw units at their Norwich Road, Ipswich petrol forecourt. This was part of a recent upgrade to the entire station.

Not working at the time of writing this post, most likely due to DNO connection.

Good to see some progress on rapids in Ipswich!

So here we are, nearly a year later and the latest is this site will be live just before Xmas. I’ll keep my eyes on this site, my prediction locally was we would see the Tesla SuC installed before Shell get this one live but I might be wrong!

Ha! Yes, we may well see the Tesla SuC site (earmarked for Q1 2023) online before Shell go-live on Norwich Road. Alas Shell still offline with “coming soon” covers when I passed recently.

That said, no sign of any groundworks for Tesla yet either. Anyone else know when this might be due to start?

A disappointing level of rapid charging in Ipswich / this end of the A14. MFG have recently opened a new station outside of Bury with chargers that are live but pricey!

This is a real tough one, I have done a deep dive on local planning documents and can only find something tied up with the construction of the Burger King at Anglia Retail park. The BK has been open since 2021. There is no mention of Tesla Superchargers but the installation of 4 chargers is detailed.

I guess we have to wait til Tesla update their website, I'm not holding my breath for Shell to open their site any time soon though! In the mean time there is a 2x EG Group rapid install just off the A14 near Morrisons that may be of interest.

as a fellow regular traveller to Ipswich I have been looking into chargers ahead of my vehicle being delivered at the end of the year and one of the best spots appears to be the rapid chargers at the P+R near Tesco at the A12/A14 junction

Thanks for the tip. Good to know!

I drove past Anglia Retail Park the other day and noticed some works have started on the empty property between the KFC and Tim Hortons. (I assume it was previously a Carphone Warehouse by the design of the building)

Can’t image this will be the Tesla supercharger site but it does coincide with the approx location of the dropped pin on the Tesla website.

The same style of building in Northampton (was a purpose built carphone warehouse) is now a Starbucks and seems a more likely candidate. Will see if I can find any references to the works.

Awesome detective work! Any info relating to the repurposing of the empty property next to KFC? Almost certainly unrelated but close to the proposed location on Teslas site (though closer to the BK so I’m back to my Tesla pre-delivery wishful thinking 😂)

Evening All, I drove past the Shell on Norwich road this afternoon and noticed the coming soon covers have been removed from the chargers and they looked to be powered up!

They’re still cordoned off so not yet useable but they are alive and this could suggest that they really are now coming soon!

That’s good, last time I was in those parts I tried to use the Shell rapids in the Waitrose car park but it was chaos
