Him indoors has a question:
Does Niro’s software update automatically or do we have to do something?
Thanks 😊
In the UK software updates should be done by your dealer. There is no official source of software for download. If you DIY and brick the system it will not be covered by Kia. The updates themselves are free and are released about every 12 months. The latest version has been release quite recently and has map version EU_13. The only catch is that the dealers are free to charge what they like for installing it. Kia recommend a charge of £40, my dealer charges £25 some have been reported as doing it for free, especially if the car is in for some other work. My car was delivered to the dealer with the “old” software but they updated it for me for free. Have a word with your dealer, especially if your car was delivered recently.

Thanks guys. Niro arrived a couple of weeks ago and has the purple icons on the “infotainment” screen menu. I think that’s the latest?

There are 3 versions with the purple/pink hue. Honestly downloading and installing the update yourself is easy; paying a dealer to do it is a mug's game.

Everyone here is talking about the head unit software though. The car's software probably can only be updated by a dealer. No idea if there have been any updates for this since launch.

As ever all very interesting thank you. We’re not at all tech savvy or car maintenance savvy. I’m sure there are people out there with ICE cars who would change the oil or other such jobs, but we’d have paid a mechanic to do it as the time and aggro and possible cock-ups involved would not have been worth the savings. Same with software - I’d probably pay the dealer to do it and spend the time doing something I am good at instead!

I will bear that in mind thank you. Just curious ... how do I know a new version should be available? Is it like my iPad where it tells me?
