What are the specs for the panels and inverter?

I got a quote through SolarTogether and sort of assumed it is a good quote. It is part of a group buying scheme by the council, I thought it is probably as good a value I am going to get - plus a vetted supplier. But I have had some great responses to my other question and somebody pointed me to a Youtube channel "The EV Puzzle", where Nigel talks about a 14 panels system costing only £4K in the video from earlier this month. The quote now doesn't seem good at all, so I thought what people think.
The installer has quoted nearly £3.7k for 8 panels (includes everything incl. installation over slate tiles) and jumps to £4.3k for 10 panels. There is a quote for battery too but I am not keen on getting that just now.

There is a 10 year extended warranty and an insurance backed guarantee if they go broke.
What's the max power rating for the inverter?
As a general rule, I'd got for as many panels as you can fit.
Those panels seem OK power wise.
For reference my installation of 20 panels (450 Watts each rated) came in at the equivalent of £7,650.
So this price isn’t too bad. Quite a bit of the cost is in the labour and certification.

My quote for 12 panels exactly the same panels as yours was £4600 without optimisers as I dont have any shade but my inverter was probably bigger at 4.2kW. Very impressed with the panels. virtually every panel being caked in pigeon droppings after the long dry spell didn't affect output anywhere near as much as I feared...very minimal. I had quotes for solar edge and ja solar panels but other installers seemed unable or unwilling to apply for dno permisson for a bigger than 3.6kw export so I went with the Longis and eventually a bigger system @ 95p per watt.

I was starting to look at scaffolding for DIY however I’ve spend my meagre savings on 6.6kW charger for Leaf30 and Phev Box for outlander. Additional panels will have to wait a bit

Ah ok, I do need to do repointing on the back wall where the scaffolding would go in for this work, it makes sense to kill two birds in one stone then.From what I remember, just the scaffolding costs 1500 or so. Add additional grand for labour.

I paid £6k in Feb 2019 for 14 high end 300w Italian panels and a "Solar Edge" Optimiser system that deals with a tiny shading issue in high summer, but is very very efficient. Contact Tanget Solar , @Trevor Larkum runs it along with another great guy Jason. They did an excellent job for me. If you want a basic 4kw panels / invertor system not high end fancy i suspect they will get close to £4k now and certainly should be able to beat £3.7k for just 8 panels.

Last time I checked, a 345W panel was around £130 each - you do the maths for 8 panels. I'd go with microinvertors rather than optimisers, but ymmv. I'd expect scaffolding eats a lot of that 4 grand. I got a price for a simple scaffolding to the chimney - £1200+vat.

Yeah been looking at HSS tool hire. I need to climb the second story roof and the way they did extension (previous owners) means there is a 1m gap between top floor and ground floor.I didn't read your reply before I responded, but I agree. My day rate is 14.2p so unless they are paying equivalent it makes no sense exporting.Makes less sense maybe, but you can sell you excess solar in the market now, Octopus Energy used to pay good rates in 2020. I got the last of FIT and deemed export so until they pay over 6p kwh in the open market any time of day i would be worse off.
Battery would also enable charging at off peak hours and satisfy background usage

None of the post FIT , even 2019 FIT like me, pay enough to give up FIT payments plus 50% deemed export if you actually consume over 50%.I have no idea what Octopus pay. I think 5p kwh, maybe 5.5p was the best on the open market in 2020. I suspect if leccy prices keep going up 5%-10% p/a, eventually they will be offering 20p kwh, when we are paying 50p kwh is normal!!

I'd find out how much extra its adding to the bill for optimisers, nice to have but not really needed for zero shading. ( for 8 panels just a couple/few hundred extra maybe..) and get some more quotes! These guys can give good initial quotes from their living room without barely lifting a finger so get as many as poss with all equipment listed.
2018, £6.xK for 20x Bisol 300W all black panels. 10 east 10 west. Simple no shade install. Solax inverter.
