Spare Leaf Gen 1 wheel anybody?

1607 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  fenlander
Just had a local sharp kerb at a drain puncture Bridgestone Ecopia tyre and damage a Gen 1 alloy.

I had planned on getting a spare wheel and tyre for self recovery and now this forces the issue.

Anyone got a spare wheel with or without tyre?.

Thanks in advance story coming soon.

Well the wheels fell off again when I went to share lessons learned from today's story elsewhere without saving the text and got this message (I don't think the site is working properly at the moment as any message gets the same response) :rolleyes:;

Nightmare, sorry I don't have a spare but if you are still planning to get a spare as we'll then you would be in the market for two alloys which seem really hard to find.

What about getting some OEM Juke wheels instead they often go very cheap on ebay. I was going to do it for my leaf but the PCP is up in May and decided to wait.

Set of 4 here for £140

And a matching spare for £50

Useful lessons learned in short;

1. You can't rely on the Nissan recovery plan when punctured if you have no signal with which to contact them and nobody can be found at home nearby as happened in our rural locale today.
2. You can get 8 miles on a total flat when the tyre is beyond repair at about 15 mph before the tyre finally shreads itself as it did 100 yds from home. Even after that the rim never touched the road and may still become the emergency spare.
3. The puncture was 8.4 miles from home when the GOM read 18 miles and I wondered if I had enough battery and rubber to get back. I was home on country lanes with 6 miles spare on the GOM so 12 GOM miles used to get 8 miles with a total flat so 2/3rds normal driving range...pretty good considering all including 2 x 300 ft deep valleys to negotiate!
4. Never trust an overgrown grass verge not to have a kerb hidden in it on the inside of a tight bend in N.W. Oxfordshire. This was particularly annoying as there was a gap of 3 x meter long kerb stones missing to allow the road to drain without the usual chamferred/tapered kerb ends so viscious hidden vertical sharp pointed right angles, our councils local weapons of mass destruction!
Please note this was a nearside rear puncture. The front may be a bit more awkward due to steering, the weight is roughly 50/50 split I believe.

Thanks for that, I will try to find a Gen 1 leaf original first though and post the cost:eek:.
Might want to also post this in the classifieds as a wanted ad? Worth a shot. Also, what about different wheel options, Juke or even after market might be an option?

Bit of a nasty scrape you got in to. :(

Just a thought, if the kerb was hidden and that's why your wheel was smashed, surely that's the fault of the council or whoever maintains that stretch of road? May well be worth putting a claim in as you may do with pothole damage?

Yes, I intend to try that. I did try once before but got nowhere, today's hideous monstrocity could be really dangerous for a motorcyclist though and I should know I am one!

I have a spare Gen 1 wheel that you are welcome to - no tyre though. I picked up a set on eBay a couple of years ago and was holding on to them in case of a disaster. Given I don't own a Leaf anymore they are now cluttering up the garage...

Send me a direct message and we can figure out how to get it to you.
