It has been mentioned briefly in previous posts about organising a trackday for us Speak EV members.

I have never done a track day before but have always fancied it. I think it would break the mould to have a track day in electric cars whizzing around :)

I found this link as a rough idea of costs etc http://castlecombetrackday.bristolpegasus.com £139 doesn't sound too bad including tuition. But like I said I have never been to a track day so I'm not sure what to look for when booking one.

The great advantage having a track day at Castle Combe is that 2 x Leigh Delamere rapid chargers are only 4 miles away. Would be even better if the circuit could supply power when you are not out on the circuit topping the battery back up.

Would anyone be interested in something like this? Or am I in the minority that thinks this would be great fun :)

2 things I liked about the AERacing day at Santa Pod - 1) it was free entry to alternative energy competitors.
2) there was nearly zero chance of crashing being a straight line race.

I know circuit racing would be that much more fun but I would not want to put my own vehicle at risk, so I might not think it was worth it.

I would love to take my EVs around a circuit but without insurance that is just not going to happen.

I'd drive somebody else's though :) :)

Track day cover certainly shouldn't break the bank. I've been fortunate enough to do several in my own and other cars and it's really good fun if organised properly. EV track day would be great.

Certainly one worth us investigating.

Goodwood!

Nissan donated 3 RCs to the estate last summer. I read that one was to be installed at the race track, one at the (horse) races and one at the house.

I did contact Nissan a while back to ask about progress but they weren't very forthcoming with info.

Anyway, it's a great circuit. I like the idea of Castle Coombe too. A great track, but run off it a bit lacking in places... ;-)

Rockingham has a couple of 22kw units on site, and a rapid about 2 miles away in Corby town centre. I've taken a Leaf a Smart ED and an Ampera round it, all good fun.

Since Formula E are building their new HQ at Donington I wonder if they'd be interested in some Etrackday fun could be a publicity opportunity too.. maybe Drayson or Ecotricity would be up for some of that too..

If you want Trackday insurance REIS.co.uk will cover anything. They are not the cheapest but the claims service is second to none. (a few quid saved with other insurers could cost you months!)

Parax. That's a great idea about donnington. Isn't there an Ecotricity charger there too?

There are ecotricity rapids on the A50 (5 miles) and also on the M1 at Trowell and Leicester forest east though at 12 & 15 miles are probably a bit far for use during an event..

However shouldn't Formula E be putting a charger in every car parking bay of it's HQ?! or at least support having rapids in the paddock! would be great to have an EV specialist track.

Could we also arrange a visit to the Formula E headquarters? Do you think they would allow us in as fellow EV drievrs?

It is looking more interesting all the time :)
